Yep, I agree, I do actually get a sense of what the early Bond films felt like when I watch an MI movie. They’re fun, action packed, great stunts, and non political. You can turn off your brain, get into the story and enjoy.

I would still say Connery is the best ever, but Craig is a solid second.

He carries the same mixture of classy, worldly intelligence and machismo not seen in Bond since Connery.

Hollywood is feminizing the movies for one reason alone and that is Donald Trump. He beat Hillary and now they are making sure that America will be ready for a woman president because women will be front and center in all of the previously male dominated franchises. They would have made Joker a woman but they didn’t get there in time. But this is indoctrination by entertainment which the biggest consumers of are teenagers and young adults males. If I don’t go see Bond or Star Wars they don’t care, but old white males are not the target demographic for the indoctrination.

The original Bond in the book wore a bowler hat and carried a cane.

I read most of the Fleming 007 novels and do not remember Bond wearing a bowler and carrying a cane. I re-read Casino Royale, Live and Let Die and Moonraker last year for the first time in decades and do not remember coming across that. The plots of the first 4 films follow the books rather well, as does On Her Majesty's secret Service.

Bond in the novels actually comes off (IMO) more like Connery than Fleming imagined. There was a newspaper comic strip based on Fleming's novels that started in 1958 before the films were made, and the artist drew a tougher, rougher looking Bond than what Fleming described. He looks more like Connery than the David Niven type Fleming imagined.

The main difference in the book Bond and film Bond is that the film bond has lots of witty bon mots to throw around.

What is amazing is their tone deafness. For the last three or four years Hollywood has been “waking” their characters, mostly with no success. After the disaster of the new Star Wars and Terminator movies,(How in the world can they screw up one of the two original and best strong female characters like Sarah Conner?), why in the world would they keep trying?
