A Colorado man has been sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to his 13th DUI.

Denver prosecutors say Maynard Rome compiled the DUIs in four Colorado counties and in South Dakota’s Lawrence County since 1986. His latest case involves a traffic accident in Denver in June. District Attorney Beth McCann’s office says it’s a miracle that Rome didn’t kill anyone over that time.

I know a guy in Colorado who got 5 years prison time for his third DUI. How does someone get 13 before he gets three years. I’m guessing he’s an illegal alien.

Agreed. Can’t keep him locked up long enough, if you ask me.

Dang, Maynard, I like the sauce, too, but I wait until I get home before I crack it open. I got one DUI on my record almost forty years ago, now expunged. They printed and processed me, put me in the tank until I dried out, then the judge gave me six points on my license, 20 hours of community service, driver rehab school, and hit me with court costs. And this was Maryland back then. I don't think I'd make 13 pullovers, as left as that state has gone - they'd just shoot me and leave me in the road.

Funny thing was, I enlisted in the army less than a year later, and my recruiter couldn't find any record of it on my background check.

Detectable alcohol of any amount while driving = 20 years so deep in stir oxygen needs to be pumped to the cell.

Prison will turn him into a recovering alcoholic. If he’s smart (doubt it), he’ll stay that way upon release.

Kind of surprising that it didn’t happen faster. Must be way too lax in Colorado.

DUI laws are lax here in WI too.
Disgusting how many DUI repeat offenders are out there still endangering good people.

I don’t recall anyone racking up 13 offenses, but 6-8 is common.
