Titans vs. Ravens score: Tennessee pulls off upset to advance to first AFC Championship since 2002
CBS Sports ^ | January 11, 2019 | Tyler Sullivan

For the first time since 2002, the Tennessee Titans are heading to the AFC Championship. Mike Vrabel's team finds themselves on the doorstep of a Super Bowl berth after stunning the No. 1 seeded Baltimore Ravens, 28-12.

Tennessee carried the momentum from their Wild Card upset of the Patriots into Baltimore and essentially had this victory secure from the jump going on a 14-0 run to start the game. They were able to get on the board first after Tennessee safety Kevin Byard picked off a tipped pass from Lamar Jackson, one of his three turnovers on the night. Ryan Tannehill, who completed half of his throws for 88 yards and two touchdowns, and company took the ball 35 yards down the field and ended with a tremendous touchdown grab by tight end Jonnu Smith. After stopping Baltimore on a fourth-and-1 attempt on their next offensive possession, Tannehill came back onto the field and immediately completed a 45-yard touchdown pass to receiver Kalif Raymond.

While the Ravens were able to put up a couple of field goals before halftime and had some momentum heading into the locker room at the break, the Titans were able to go on a back-breaking third-quarter run that pressed their lead over 20 points and essentially put the game out of reach. A large part of that is thanks to running back Derrick Henry, who rushed for 195 yards and he even passed for a touchdown.

Russell Wilson is doing ok.

Blanket statements are rarely 100 percent correct.

I don’t classify Wilson as a “Running QB”

Yeah the Patriots got really lazy in their million SB wins with a first round bye :)

Does anybody here do research before posting?

It’s a ridiculous statement and history doesn’t bear it out At All.

Defensive coordinators always figure out how to shut down running, athletic QB’S. They can have one, or sometimes two, successful years but they always get figured out. To succeed in the NFL a QB must be a solid pocket passer who can read a defense and have a quick release.

“Russell Wilson is doing ok.”

Because Russell Wilson is a solid pocket passer who can read a defense.

This was the 1st time I’ve seen Henry caught from behind once he got in stride. On that 66 yard run he normally gets to the end zone, but the Raven’s defender showed some serious speed.

Titans wanted it, Ravens expected it... big difference on the field of play.

Ryan went to high school here in our little town about 85 miles south of Lubbock. He was born in Lubbock but raised here in Big Spring and played ball here. Watched him play many a Friday night game. When the Dolphins picked him up we thought it was the beginning but he spent most of his time on the bench. We knew he was a pro player but he just needed a chance to show it, and the Dolphins didn’t give him that chance. The Titans have what we always knew, they got a winner. Been allot of pro ball players come from this little town, must be something in the water.

An amazing game, a terrific defense.

Isn’t it interesting, though, how it seems usually (the exception was the Colon Cancer-led 49ers) the teams that always tout these “different” running QBs like Jackson, Cunningham, RG3, and so far Dak Prescott find themselves beaten by the “traditional” pocket passers? Tannehill can run, but for the most part he fits the “Tom BradY” mold more than the Jackaon/Mahomes mold. And Colon Cancer only had the one stellar season.

Now, coming out of today’s game, for certain the Titans will face yet another of these “new” running QBs, with the Texans having a guy more in that mold than Mahomes. If the Titans win that game, especially if it ends up being the Texans, then the NFL coaches will have to again evaluate this style of quarterbacking.

Yes, Vince Young, RG 3, and Colin Kaepernick followed almost the same career arc - immediate, exceptional success - followed by stunning fall offs, and quick career wash-outs. The sports media fell hard for all three, touting a new, higher level of QB play - and they were quickly proved wrong. Lamar might be headed in the same direction - all of the late, wobbly passes he threw last night is a bad sign.

Wilson runs as a last resort, when all else fails. Jackson runs are built into the game plan.

the media hypes these guys and we all know why....on the pre-game yesterday, they actually said this guy represents the “new way to play QB”...heh, ...that stuff works in college football, where half the players are just out of high school. Pro football is so much faster and brutal...this guy is a great runner, but he keeps up that crazy scrambling, while trying to choose whether to throw the ball, he’s gonna get blasted eventually...and that’ll be the end of that. Sorry..but hes not a Pro QB...
