A Santa Clara County sheriffs deputy is on paid leave after apparently leaving his badge and a loaded gun that were found by a child at a South Lake Tahoe rental home.
Josh Segarra, 9, found the gun in a bedroom drawer 10 minutes after arriving at an Airbnb rental near the Heavenly ski resort over the weekend, the boys father, Jon Segarra of Hayward, told KTVU-TV.
At first, the family thought the items were fake. They didnt touch the gun a Ruger .380 handgun but contacted local police.

I’m guessing this doesn’t reflect well on the deputy?
I never find stuff like that.
me either. This deputy is definitely not the brightest bulb in the pack. LOL
Carrying a 380... I hope it was his backup piece
on paid leave = vacation
I’m sure it was.
maybe this deputy just has really small hands or something.
About a year ago an Agent for a Federal Law Enforcement entity was at our private range for some practice. His group packed up and left. An hour or so later a member showed up and noticed an unattended rifle case.
Inside was a fully automatic weapon.
That evening the Board President got a call from said Agent demanding our membership poster and the records of who swiped in that day. He told the Agent hed gladly comply just as soon as he produced a Warrant.
A quick phone call to this dipwads supervisor took the wind out of Federal tough guys sails.

Headlines torn from the annals of Reno 911.
I offered to buy the wife a .380 once.
Once.
380 I reread the article and it does not say if the deputy was a male or female or what ever it was identifying as on that stay in the rental house
Yeah. He needs a rest after his ski trip.
While certainly not in the same league as a .45, the .380 is plenty lethal if used properly.
Doesn’t say much about the cleaning lady of the rented room/suite.
No tip for you. You’re fired.
I found a dusty gray lint covered chicken wing bone on the head board of a motel bed. It was between the headboard wood and the drywall, not visible to a quick glance.
Not much detail cleaning going on in that motel.
The Ruger 380 is a small gun and would’ve been a good fit for the little 9 year old’s hand. Kid should’ve popped off a few rounds. Might be the only chance he’ll ever have to experience the thrill and excitement...
The Ruger 380 (like the KelTec P3-AT) is a “get-off-me” gun.
Your story gives me the willies.
