Green tea is one of the healthiest beverages on earth: It’s full of flavonoids that can help reduce inflammation, aids in lowering bad cholesterol and can lessen your chances of heart attack or stroke, Harvard Medical School tells us—all important factors to counteract the effects of the day-old cheese stick and half a sleeve of crackers you sometimes refer to as “lunch.” But does this mean you can drink green tea before bed and reap all its healthy benefits? The short answer: No. Well, not if you want to get a good night’s sleep.

Wait, why can’t I drink green tea before bed? While there’s three times more caffeine in one cup of coffee than there is in a mug of green tea (95 milligrams to about 30), this doesn’t make green tea a bedtime drink. I don’t drink anything before bed. If I do, I will get up two or three times during the night.

“Should You Drink Green Tea Before Bed?”

Only if you don’t mind getting up 6 times during the night to go pee.

Green tea has a caffeine jolt - different from coffee, IMHO, but still there.

I couldn’t drink it after 6 PM and expect to sleep normally.

Try Tazo awake if you can find it somewhere- strong malty taste- not quite coffee taste, but a good substitute IF you can’t drink coffee due to stomach issues- I don’;t like tea either, but can’;t drink coffee- so i recently tried it and now it’s all i drink if i gotta have my caffeine

Coffee drinker here but I do have Sleepy Time tea at bedtime, has chamomile and really helps me to nod off, don’t wake up as much at night either, decaf. Don’t drink too much, a small cup of tea wont make you get up to pee.

No, but I drink unsweet green tea in Asian restaurants whenever I can.

I only drink water, unsweet tea, green or otherwise, and milk.

I like tea.

I like green tea and drink a pot every few days.

I do not drink it before bed, that is when I drink herbal sleepy tea.

Seems like people should drink tea earlier in the day , and get the benefit without the downside of being up multiple times to run to the bathroom.

I’ve tried green tea, can’t understand the appeal. It’s weak and smells like grass (lawn variety).
Anyone here want to suggest a particular brand?

Sencha (a type of tea) tastes the grassiest. You might try a White Tea or Jasmine Green Tea. The jasmine might make it a lot more palatable to you.
