Hey - the Great Dem Hope Virus is the in-thing these days - more info can be better but it would be nice if it was more balanced...

By the way, I can’t bring myself to criticize those who I may view as overly concerned-I recognize their mental state, and I have sympathy more than irritation or anything like that.

I’m sorry, I rounded down. And bear in mind, there is some indication China may be suppressing data to make it look less bad than it is.

I am not for panic, but people should take this seriously. The worst thing in the world for Trump is people don’t take measures to protect themselves, this thing takes off, and the left tries to blame him.

The best thing possible would be everyone don full protective gear wen they go out, nobody gets infected in the next three weeks, the entire thing is killed back until it warms up, and Trump is hailed as a genius who handled this perfectly.

We will end up somewhere on that spectrum. I would prefer it be more toward the later than the former.

You may be right, and I hope so. But I cannot fathom why people wouldn’t wan every update posted. If there are cases in my area I want to know.

As I said upstream, we can minimize this, and encourage people to ignore it, but I think that increases the risk that people will not protect themselves, it may hit harder, and Trump will be blamed. Or we can keep it prominent in people’s minds now, make them a little afraid of it, and they will protect themselves. If that happens, the spread will be stifled until things warm up, and hopefully Trump is hailed as a genius.

As for the flu, we are looking at potential. If this spread like the flu, given it has 10-20 times the CFR, you’d be looking at 320,000-900,000 dead. OF course its R value may be as high as four times the R of the flu, according to the research, so it could spread a lot farther.

I do not see why talking about the updates is bad.

I am just trying to get people to view this rationally, and leave the emotional in check. Emotional thinking is not critical thinking, and often results in confusion and panic.

While the current death rate from this coronavirus stands at 3.5, we have no way on knowing how accurate that is, because China is not an open regime. China has not been forthcoming. In addition their healthcare delivery is nowhere nearly as proficient as our is. In addition to that we don't know how Chinese citizens seek out treatment. By that I mean they may wait until they become critically ill before seeking treatment. Thus the numbers maybe higher than even the Chinese officials are aware of. It seems that those who have better immune systems may not even be suffering drastic enough symptoms to even realize they have the virus, but they are still spreading it around. So we need to keep informed, but we do not need to post every article on the subject, when a number of those articles are suspect in their reporting. We know that the Democrats are trying to get maximum mileage out of this, and the press is more than willing to assist them in blaming President Trump and claiming his attention to this is lacking, ineffective, etc., etc., etc. They love the extra added bonus of it making the stock markets experience nose dives of epic proportions.

On the way into work I was listening to the David Webb radio show and some clown called in wanting to try and connect the dots to the release of 5G technology to the coronavirus. I offer that as just an example of how ridiculous people are becoming over this issue.

President Trump did the best thing to make this nation less impacted by stopping those in China from returning to the U.S., with people slamming his decision to do so. Our healthcare system is by far the best in the world. While that may turn out to not be enough, it is way to early to get yourself worked up about it.

Now will the virus slow down in warmer weather? No one knows at this point in time, but this is the normal course for these coronaviruses. Is this one different because it has been weaponized? If so China has unleashed it on their people so it will hurt them far more than it will hurt us. If other countries start seeing a rapid rise, I trust this president to react with our best interests more than the previous 4 presidents combined.

I agree with everything you say except dissuading the posting of articles. Personally I am a more information type of guy, and feel I can generally tell what is wheat and what is chaff. Plus, I view this subject as potentially very important, so I like seeing everything so if there is a gem somewhere out there I have a good chance of running upon it here. I don’t think too many people really have emotions on news on this site anyway. This is generally a pretty smart crew.

One other thing I disagree with is our healthcare system’s ability to deal with it though. It seems 20-25% need artificial respiration in an ICU, and we just don’t have the respirators if it goes big. Hopefully spring comes first, because that could make it a real headache.

But I’m hoping for the best.
