Anti Viral effect of Azithromycin
European Respiratory Journal ^ | 3/23/20 | DAC21

Posted on 03/23/2020 3:59:51 AM PDT by DAC21

For those scratching their head how an antibiotic is showing promise vs. Covid-19 virus here is some science behind it. Interesting and not to difficult of a read versus some Medical studies.

And for the Leftist haters accusing PDT of peddling snake oil by promoting Chloroquine and Azithromycin as a promising treatment go screw yourselves. But before you do, place your order in advance of how you like your Crow prepared.

One other thing: the ‘mycin’ family of drugs work, for those allergic to penicillin and its derivatives, like me.

Could it be that the most severe pneumonia-like effects of the disease are from a plasmodium secondary infection for which the virus is a gateway?

I would doubt it, malaria is not endemic here.

I believe this is the study that was referenced in this WSJ article.

I understood the general principle right off the bat - it’s not rocket science. The anti-inflammatory properties reduce the symptoms - it doesn’t cure the virus.

If I understand it correctly keeping the inflammation down allows the Alveoli sacs in the lungs to continue to exchange oxygen in and carbon dioxide out. Basically allowing you not to suffocate

There is no 'mycin' family of drugs. It was a marketing term. For further reading: Penicillin

Macrolide antibiotics are commonly referred to as “ ‘mycins “ . Not sure what your point is.

Pneumonia has many causes. Gram negative bacteria, Strep, Legionella, to name a few. By itself “pneumonia” is meaningless or nearly so. If you were only interested in studying “all respiratory illnesses” asking Medical Records to give you a list of all cases of “pneumonia”. In that case we have that blank in the form.

Azithromycin may not be the only one out there...

From 2016...

Identification of novel macrolides with antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and type I and III IFN-augmenting activity in airway epithelium

This is so cool...

Macrolides in critically ill patients with Middle East Respiratory Syndrome

Different bug than WuFlu fortunately.

For those that want to make conclusions without reading the article, the key take away (for me) is:

Azithromycin potentially works by stimulating the host antiviral responses through the induction of interferons (IFNs) and IFN-stimulated genes (ISGs).

No, they're not. Terramycin is a tetracycline. Bleomycin is a chemotherapeutic agent.

My point is you're wrong in your description.
