There was no reason why huge swaths of the economy to be locked down. One example... the construction industry. Another example distribution centers.

Question:
“Who makes the decision on who opens up the economy”?
Answer:
“When people feel confident” Gov. Dewine. ?????? Sounds crony

All we need is a few states to start this and it will cascade. No state wants to be left out of an economic recovery — even the communist ones.

I agree ... but it’s still necessary to have the cure widely available prior to “reopening” both from a political and ethical perspective ...

The constitution still applies, as written. Do what ever you choose. You are free.

Getting to be time to let ‘er rip and mitigate as needed with it open and running...if not, the People will stop being “responsibly compliant” because I can see local signs that they are getting antsy and tired of it.

A resurgence is not inevitable. You lock down the economy, the disease dies out in the hosts, when you unlock the economy, there is no way for the disease to start up again. Even if it did, there are a lot of people who already had it, so there is some herd immunity. Also factor in that people who were locked down aren’t going to want to go through that again, so they are going to wash their hands more, and at least in the short term our behaviors will be modified in such a way as to reduce the possibility of transmission.

All of the above is based on the unproven notion that locking down the economy with shelter in place orders was going to be the panacea for the coronavirus pandemic. It has been hyped by news media because they thrive on crises. Without a daily Russia collusion, without a Ukrainian quid pro quo, without impeachment daily updates, they need a way to drive people to their websites and advertisers. Bonus, it helps to keep the attention off of Joe Biden.

Issue safety guidelines for the safe operation of businesses (readily available).

Open mom and pops, car shops immediately.

Open large stores and malls as soon as they are ready with distancing and hygiene measures.

As said here, restart construction immediately.

Restart domestic tourism as soon as airlines, hotels, parks and attractions develop distancing and hygiene measures.

AND HAVE THIS HAMMER READY: FEDGOV ISSUE WARNINGS TO STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS VIOLATING FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS LIKE FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT AND TRAVEL, RIGHT TO LIFE BY HAVING A LIVELIHOOD, LIBERTY, UNREASONABLE SEARCHES AND SEIZURES, FREEDOM OF ASSEMBLY, FREEDOM OF RELIGION, ETC. ORDER THE FBI TO PRIORITIZE THE INVESTIGATION OF VIOLATIONS OF THESE RIGHTS AND PROVIDE THE CITIZENS WITH A HOTLINE TO DENOUNCE/RAT OUT THEIR WOULD BE DICTATORS.

Spot on analysis CNM.

But you will find you are in the minority here at good old FR. Many here believe that the shutdown was a big waste of time and money and we should just be more like Sweden.

The fact that you understand that the shutdown was a delay to keep the health organizations from overloading is exactly right. It delays. It does not eliminate.

Your remedy, ACQ and Zinc is also correct but I remain doubtful that we have the will and perhaps even the means to implement it in the sort term. But I would take the pills in heartbeat.

Great points. The best option is to re-open states with the fewest cases first.

Because these states tend to have smaller, more dispersed populations, there will be enough medicines for them.

Then, as long as the success of the medicines is widespread, other states can be gradually re-opened.

One thing that was said....The amount of virus which got into your body is related to the seriousness of the illness.

how to prepare the public for this inevitable new wave of illness and death WHEN our economy MUST inevitably reopen.

Ummm not gonna happen. Those that are at high risk will stay sequestered. Their is no new wave of death coming upon opening up the economy. We now know who is at high risk and who is not. I stopped reading right there.

This premise is flawed. So the analysis is worthless.

I tend to agree that ‘herd immunity’ must take place in order to make CV-19 into just another flu. My concern is if one catches the virus and are treated early with the Z-paks, does your body fully develop the antibodies that will guarantee you not catching it again.

Another concern is that if Z-paks are extremely successful then the motivation to quickly develop a vaccine will diminish. Because many millions of Americans will not have caught the virus, a vaccine for all is the only way to really put CV-19 behind us as a threat to civilization.

Look, if 99% of the people who get the virus don’t require hospitalization there was never a need to shut the economy down to begin with. It was just a ruse to launch a general strike and shut down the economy.

Doesn’t a functional economy offer a better chance at survival than a non-functional economy?

Not rocket science here ppl.

“if 99% of the people who get the virus don’t require hospitalization”

Is that even remotely accurate? I thought 15-20% of those who contracted COVID-19 require hospitalization.

Do you have a source that only 1% of those infected with CV-19 require hospitalization?
