Jaguars finding 'no takers' for Leonard Fournette trade

Nearly three years after taking Leonard Fournette with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars are shopping their star running back this offseason. As the 2020 NFL Draft nears, though, things reportedly aren’t going well.

The Jaguars started discussing trades involving Fournette earlier this offseason, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Now with the NFL Draft closing in, they’ve circled back with those teams to try and make a deal happen. Unfortunately for the Jaguars, they aren’t finding any takers.

I wonder what the Jaguars are trying to get back? What a waste of a draft pick on a position with the highest rate of depreciation. If I was a GM no RBs with a day 1 pick.

Jax has always a knack for poor draft picks/strategy. If the jag front office is good at anything...it’s being bad at that. A few years ago they paid a wide receiver 12 mil. He was here 1 season and caught 2 TDs. Must be nice.

Also on a side note. lived here for 50 years...be a looong time before they get any of my hard earned $$.

Here's the issue. Running backs are considered replaceable. You can get one in the draft that will make an immediate impact and most teams aren't trying to pound the rock anymore so they just need a 'good enough' running back. But the Rams and Cowboys paid Todd Gurley and Zeke Elliott a kings ransom and set the market for top tier RBs astronomically high. So when a very good RB is up for renewal he wants that sort of money and teams say 'nah, I think I'll just draft a guy in the 4th round'. Fournette will be wanting a gigantic contract moving forward and the jags are essentially rebuilding so they won't pay him but nobody else wants to pick that problem up either.

Basically this is a terrible time to be a very good but not elite RB looking for his first contract after his rookie one ends.

Yeah...it doesn’t help that modern football is glorified Arena-Football.

The game is too QB-centric now. Gone are the days when you could put a great RB behind a terrific group of team-blockers and create a dynasty-level offense.

True dat. I find it unwatchable. Give me the good old days of three yards and a cloud of dust.

It sure was fun watching Adrian Petersen in his prime.

Fun to see the Muslim Jags owner spend tens of millions and have nothing to show for it.

They’re having a hard time trading anybody, Ngakoue is whining too. They must be asking too much.

Believe it or not, it's coming back. QBs cost too much and defenses are all designed to stop the pass. So smart OCs are saying 'cool, I'll just run it'. And it works because defenses are just not designed to stop it. So even mediocre running backs can pile up big numbers and utterly control the clock. More teams are figuring this out and the pendulum will swing back to more running. That's my prediction (which is really more of an observation because the 49ers went to the Superbowl last year with an okay QB but a strong rushing attack driven by a perrenial practice squad / backup guy who had bounced around the league for years.

And yet the idiot Cowboys decided to pay a middle-of-the-road quality RB in Ezekiel Elliot.

That’s one reason why teams don’t want to keep RBs, he set the price way too high.

Give me the best OL coach in the land and I’ll make him the richest coach in the league.

A good offensive line makes you a contender, regardless of what you’ve got at the skill positions.

That dude fumbled away a Superbowl.

How many did he have in that game? 4?

I still call him Butterfingers.

‘Give me the good old days of three yards and a cloud of dust.’

don’t recall UF ever having much success with that kind of offense; I remember Spurrier flinging the ball around back in the ‘60’s, and his high octane offenses in the ‘80’s and 90’s...but of course, there was Emmitt Smith...

Spurrier also had Fred Taylor, who probably would have won a Heisman if he played for any other team, LOL.

Loved to watch the Houston Oilers Earl Campbell destroy defensive line and linebackers. Bum Phillips sure got his moneys worth out of Earl.

‘Imagine what is was like watching Gayle Sayers and Walter Payton.’

I watched a lot of Sayers when I was in high school, and Payton somewhat later...Sayers was remarkable, in my opinion...

Hard to get other teams to take your first round busts.
