Cafeteria style means someone serves the food from behind a counter. Put on a plate and handed to customer. Only the server picks up the serving utensils. Yes, the tray slides along. Customers only pick up tableware.

I think the steak houses used to serve that way.

That is an area where Kemp doesn’t get enough credit. Early on he put considerable National Guard resources into helping nursing and assisted living homes clean up.

A couple of years ago when we evacuated Florida in the wake of Hurricane Irma we found refuge near Ole Times Buffet, and went there for dinner. The owner was there, and was giving a 50+% discount for all hurricane refugees.

As we were leaving I gave a very large tip to more than make up for the difference, and they wouldn't take my money.

I now try to plan all my North/South travels to have a meal at Old Time. I highly recommend a visit for a tradition Southern meal.
