asking for a friend
Tell your friend that the so-called COBRA design slings make making a “heavier than average” shotgun OR a full-size rifle easier on the shoulder during a long day in the field.
Generally speaking, the COBRA slings are little if any more expensive than the “one width” & narrow “regular slings” are.

Depends on what kind of shotgun and what kind of stock, if you want to get technical. Does your friend want a Single Point or Two Point...Two Points are demonstrably better every day, all day.
Can’t go wrong with a Magpul MS1. Two points. Adjustable. Wide and simple to install and use.
Toss on some mounts and your friend is ready to go.
Just my 2cents.
thanks. my friend is primarily interested in maximizing home defense related effectiveness.
Male or female?
also not a bad idea to get a good recoil system in place on it so you’re not sore after using it awhile.
Btw, IF you want a sling that will probably OUTLAST you, get a sling custom-made out of EXCELLENT-quality saddle leather.
My brown & black heavy-duty/padded sling that gets transferred from one rifle/shotgun to another to carry afield was made expressly to my design (YES, it has my name carved into it.) cost me the princely sum of 18.oo about 2 decades ago.
(I seriously doubt that it will need to be replaced in my lifetime.)

I have kept an 8 shot 12 gauge pump beside my bed for nearly 30 years.
The more I think about it I think I am mistaken. The shotgun is too powerful for indoors. I think I would be better served with a Ruger 10/22 and a quality 25 round mag. A couple of spares but really doubt the usefulness but why not?
I also don’t see a tactical sling for an indoor shotgun. Just else to get in the way.
I just had a “friend” that bought himself a semiauto shotgun last weekend.
Fwiw, he or she would be better off not using a sling in most home defense situations, as the sling can “catch on things” in the house & “be in the way”.

if you empty the shotgun very quickly, then you will not need a sling.
answering as a friend
Do you really think that when you are awakened at 3:00am groggy eyed by an intruder that you will first strap on the sling?
a petite female is likely to be present, at least in the worst case, although her inclination and effectiveness in armed defense mode remains an open question for at least the short term (longer term, they anticipate getting some training). a police barrel is currently on order (scheduled to arrive soon).
woops, wondering what a recoil system is... (tia for any clarifications)
where is one likely to find a maker for such a custom sling, and is it one point or two point (and why)?
you chnage out standard stock with one that absorbs recoil, usually either some mechanical and/or gel-type padding
my friend is concerned about the effectiveness of a 22 rifle for home defense versus a semi-auto shotgun. beyond that, what are your thoughts on a marlin papoose rifle for home defense, versus a ruger 10/22?
aha. i will pass along and my friend will investigate and consider! thank you!
A 12 gauge shotgun indoors would be a brutal weapon. No doubt about that. It can be brutal at both ends tho. Several quick shots from a .22 would also be effective and easy to manage.
The Marlin is just as good a gun but accessories are what make the Ruger the choice. I grew up on a farm and came to respect the lowly .22.
I got a mossy 20 gauge 8 shot semi for home defense. 12ga wrecks me
