Saw him live in California.
Just after he had cleaned up his act and stopped drinking and using drugs.
Was killed shortly there after when he was involved in a car crash with a drunk driver.
Funny guy.
Back when David Letterman had a good show such as having on Stevie Winwood in 1986 which I discussed with co-workers. And Peter Gabriel singing Red Rain in 1992

The “Tonight Show” with Letterman? I don’t think so.
After being pulled from his car after having a serious accident, Sam Kinison had a conversation with a person nobody else could see, saying “I dont want to die. I dont want to die.”, he paused, then asked “But why?”. After another pause, his friend heard him clearly say: “Okay, okay, okay.”
“The film crew could give this kid a sandwich.”
Great stuff....
I met Sam at a Houston comedy club. A buddy and I were watching him onstage. He was not real famous at the time so we didn’t know him at all. I’m not sure how it came about, there was alcohol involved, but at some point Sam and my buddy are rolling on the floor attempting to be the crap out of each other. Long story. We got to know him pretty well after that. At one point he did something and got thrown out of the club. He went across the street, climbed up on a 7-11 sign and “crucified” himself until they let him back in to the club.
He was really a pretty nice and regular guy...
Bullshit. He was drunk off his was and caused the accident. He drove into the pickup trucks lane speeding and passing cars on the highway.
“Late Night with David Letterman.” Must-see TV back then, when Dave was still hurling objects off tall buildings, instead of getting cranky and political.
He was in an ‘89 Turbo Trans Am, which was the fastest car built in the 1980’s and he wasn’t wearing a seat belt.
With a seat belt, he might have walked away. The car he died in was fixed.
Didn’t he almost go into the ministry?
Sure do miss Sam!
You may be right on that point, Which is the 2nd but irony of his death. Kennison prior to that had been driving his trans am in and out of on coming traffic passing people in the highway to Laughlin like a crazy person. Very nearly causing accidents. He was being followed the whole way by a van doing the same. Did any of the reports tell you that? Suffice it to say. The van following him cleaned all the alcohol and other stuff from kennisons backseat. Also Kennison was not killed instantly the crash. He got out of his car and sat on the roadside and DRANK alcohol straight from a vodka (I think I on type) bottle before he passed. He was like an hour to two away from medical help where he crashed and died.
Wow that was so frigging funny!!!
And for a lot of us he is absolutely right....the stats don’t lie...
Always liked Sam...he was and always will be a straight shooter.
LOL
you live in the desert!!
:)
Btw, I’m a second hand witness, which is why my memory was fuzzy on the actual crash. My witnesses had just been passed by Kennison a 2nd time (he stopped to take off his T tops) and they saw a big cloud of smoke and heard it up ahead. They stopped. Beer cans all over highway, likely from the pickup truck. They stop, one goes up to Kennisons car, he still in driver seat, unseatbelted. Wife in passenger seat seatbelted. He goes to driver window maybe touches him or just reaches to him. A guy from the van comes running and screaming “don’t touch him get the truck away from him”. My friend backs away, says he knows CPR, offers to assist. At the time, witness did not recognize Kennison, thought he was a Mexican guy. It wasn’t till they got to Laughlin and saw tv news latter did they realize that it was Kennison. I think they had tickets for his show.
The autopsy showed he had cocaine in his system. So,at the very least,he didn’t *entirely* quit drugs.
