Formula 1 announced on Friday that it will not run the U.S., Mexican and Brazilian Grand Prix races because of concerns regarding the coronavirus pandemic.

According to BBC's Andrew Benson, those races will be replaced by races in Europe. F1 will instead run at Nurburgring in Germany, Imola in Italy and Portimao in Portugal.

The U.S. Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, had been scheduled for Oct. 23, the Mexican Grand Prix in Mexico City for Oct. 30 and the Brazilian Grand Prix in Sao Paulo for Nov. 13.

F1 has also decided against attempting to run the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, which was postponed in both April and June.

Formula 1 released the following statement on its decision: "Due to the fluid nature of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, local restrictions and the importance of keeping communities and our colleagues safe, it will not be possible to race in Brazil, USA, Mexico and Canada this season."

The replacement races will be held as follows: Nurburgring on Oct. 11, Portimao on Oct. 25 and Imola on Nov. 1.

with the exception of Germany the US has a lower per million covid rate than western Europe. But, regardless, the Lewis Hamilton car parade wont be missed.

F1 is popular elsewhere in the world.
It’s far superior to “left turn” NASCAR.

Watching a parade of multimillion dollar cars go around a circuit with next to no passing (overtaking) is not for me.

I actually like qualifying the best with no overtaking at all.

Back to the good old days when F1 was basically a Euro series.

Look at a death rate per million, where US fares better than cases per million, the following EU countries are doing better than the US:

Austria
Latvia
Bulgaria
Lithuania
Croatia
Luxembourg
Cyprus
Malta
Czechia
Netherlands
Denmark
Poland
Estonia
Portugal
Finland
Romania
Slovakia
Germany
Slovenia
Greece
Spain
Hungary
Ireland

>good old days when F1 was basically a Euro series

1951 included the 500 as part of the series.

That said, although I love COTA and Hermanos Rodriquez and will miss those races badly, this is the right way to hold this season if you’re going to give any credence to a virus threat.

Also, the rank hypocrisy of the uber-rich’s sport flagellating itself in support of an overtly Communist movement that would have every one of those guys dead or designing better tools to kill others, is fun to watch. “Hi! I’m Lewis Hamilton. I drive a car made by mostly white guys that’s far better than anyone else’s, I make $40M a year, and I’ve got a Communist symbol on my hat because I want to whinge about racism!”
