You need to be added to my End Times Ping List.

We are definitely in the Season for The Return of The Lord.

It may have been simple for Newton.

But then again, he invented calculus.

He did - but, in a way, he didn’t. Liebnitz invented calculus independently, and if you tried to understand Newton’s calculus from his writings after having learned calculus in school, you would be in trouble - because Liebnitz’ notation is what you learned in school.

Reason being, that Newton’s notation isn’t as elegant and understandable as Liebniz’.

In the era following the publication of calculus by those two, you assigned credit for the invention of calculus to Newton or to Liebnitz according to whether you were pro or anti British.

So Brit students learned Newtonian calculus notation until Charles Babbage, as an undergraduate, led a successful revolt in favor of Liebnitz’ notation.

Blaise Pascal invented calculus along with a guy name Ferme. Newton might have made some important contributions...I’m not sure.

well, we can agree to disagree on that in general terms.

“From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near. 33 So also, when you see all these things, you know that he is near, at the very gates. 34 Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

“The Bible prophesies the destruction of Rome (the city of Seven Hills) in Revelation 17”

A common interpretation, but one that has many flaws.

Remind me again, the end is nigh has been proclaimed, predicted, and asserted for how many thousands of years?

“my logical mind can’t accept the Bible because it was written my mortal men who believed the Earth was flat”

People haven’t believed the earth was flat since the classical Greeks, who were quite a bit before Jesus’ time.

> Unfortunately, my logical mind can’t accept the Bible because it was written my mortal men who believed the Earth was flat and much of it is supposition and speculation. The Old Testament is just fairy tales to me. <

Read the works of some of the ancient philosopher - scientists, and you’ll find many obvious errors. As just one example, Aristotle wrote that a heavier object will hit the ground before a lighter one will (if you release them at the same time from the same height).

Galileo easily refuted that by using a large iron ball and a small iron ball. They hit the ground at the same time.

But there are no such obvious errors in the Bible. I’ve read many papers claiming to have found such errors. But the authors are themselves making incorrect scientific arguments. As someone who taught physics for quite some time, I suppose I can catch these incorrect arguments easier than most.

Yes, it isn’t possible for God to both be omniscient and to be ignorant of the results of some “random number generator” that He created.

So you can have God, or you can have randomness, but you can’t have both.

They’re talking about integral calculus, which seems to have been independently developed by Newton and Leibniz around the same time.

Actually, the Old Testament prophet Isaiah stated the following showing he believed it was a sphere:

“There is One who is dwelling above the circle of the earth.” (Isaiah 40:22)

The Hebrew word chugh here translated “circle” may be rendered “sphere.” Interestingly, only a spherical object appears as a circle from every angle. Far ahead of his time, then, the prophet Isaiah recorded a statement that is scientifically sound and free from ancient myths.

Matthew 24:24 often gets glossed over. The plural is used by Christ in describing that there would be numbers of false Christs and false prophets arising who would actually perform great signs and wonders so as to lead many astray as it gets closer to the days of God’s wrath. One can argue that there have obviously been a few false Christs over the years but we haven’t seen multiple numbers of false prophets actually performing great signs and wonders. I think there have been some over the years but I think as the end gets closer there might be a whole lot of such folk crawling out of the wood work and it will be very hard to resist their claims of each one of them being the ONLY holy One of God or of being his true representative. That is why we have the Bible so that we can discern such people as false in spite of their magic tricks for the Bible says very plainly how the real Christ will come to set up his kingdom.

So see someone pulling off incredible signs and wonders....ignore him if he denies the truth of 1 John 4.

The “end times” started when Jesus ascended. We’re in the last part of the end times. At some point, within perhaps decades or less, the times of the last 3½ years of it will be upon us. Israel received back its land in 1948. There’s a generation after that, during which the end will come. How long is a generation? Is it when the last person on earth, born in 1948 dies, or is it a fixed number, like 80 years, for example. We don’t know; what we DO know is that we’d better be ready.

“I have tried many times through my life to believe Jesus is what the gospels say he is. I want to believe.”

When Jesus was dealing with a father of a possessed son, his father asked for help saying...”If you can, please help my son...” Jesus replied...”Anything is possible if can believe.” The Father replied...” I believe but help my unbelief”. Christ then proceeded to drive the spirit out.

If you have a true desire to believe that is half the battle already. Now ask God to to help you with your unbelief; but you have to be prepared for anything big or small that happens. If you pray a prayer like that, accepting your faults and asking forgiveness, even if it seems like nothing happens at first...don’t worry...God has found you and you’ll come to realize it soon enough!
God doesn’t mind a person with a logical mind. CS Lewis came to faith he says kicking a screaming by the weight of the evidence that seemed to call to the emptiness in his life. Heaven knows we have a need for more rational faith based people to help the faithful cut thru the BS that occurs.

No where does the scripture tell us to figure out “when”. It tells us to watch for the signs so we wouldn’t be surprised when it comes upon us.
