European airlines on Tuesday urged national capitals to coordinate measures to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus, saying the current patchwork of restrictions is hobbling a return to regular travel around the EU.
The hurdles have included chaotic border restrictions along with confusion about quarantines, varying passenger locator forms and test requirements, Airlines For Europe (A4E) director Thomas Reynaert said in a press conference held by video.
To overcome the piecemeal measures, A4E urged a common approach, backing calls from the European Commission for a central color-coded map of areas in the bloc where the virus risk, is high to enable restrictions by region rather than blanket national restrictions.
Passengers should have access to quick and reliable COVID-19 tests and quarantines should be downgraded to an instrument of last resort, the airline group said. Low-risk travelers including pilots and cabin crew ought to be excluded from travel restrictions, the companies added.

Who wants to travel (especially internationally) when you don’t know what to expect? Until “normal” returns , my patio is very nice...and my bar is well stocked .
It’s not chaos, it’s hysteria.
hear, hear
So, they can standardize everything with the E.U., but this is a problem.
Seems odd to me. Maybe it’s because no one knew what to expect with this.
Just another crisis to take advantage of. Remember, the EU openly declared their intention to rule by crisis a few decades back.
Agree...but its creating chaos. Even traveling within the US is a nightmare. The airlines should get working on that, too.
All these petty tyrant governors need to be told that its over, they have to go back to being Americans, and their state is just a part of this country. Its not their personal kingdom.
Just the other day, I read about an American family with 6 children who were forced to leave the plane (pre-take off) because the Baby, a 2 year old refused to keep her mask on. She wanted a pacifier instead. This is the sort of time consuming, emotionally draining power struggle many airlines want to step away from.
Masks are of course required everywhere. Some countries require us to wear gloves and wrap our bags in plastic before getting off the plane. All of them require mountains of paperwork and/or electronic health declarations that have to be submitted before the flight or we could be denied entry. Processing into the country inevitably will take at least an hour now, I guess paperwork is supposed to cure Covid. Some countries have required us to get a test upon entering and we've had crewmembers whisked away and locked in quarantine prisons (that's basically what they are) for 14 days because they'd been around someone who tested positive.
All in all it's a nightmare and it's getting worse, not better. This virus has been a dream come true for every petty tyrant wannabee Mao whose dream has been to control every aspect of the lives of their people. If you ever wondered how people could be so pliant as to allow a maniacal dictator to come to power look no further than this virus, we've allowed tyrants everywhere to shut down the world's economy over a juiced up cold virus. The eradication of freedom in the world will come at the hands of politicians taking it while proclaiming it's for our own "safety", and most will happily comply.
It’s the middle of September folks. The jig’s up.
Thank you for your personal report.
So sorry to hear about what you/other airline employees are going through....with this China Flu nonsense...especially in Asia.
You’re spot on...that this ‘virus’ has allowed the ushering in of tyrannical - and absurd - dictates, worldwide.
Is there any way that you can get reassigned to domestic (I take it you’re American) flights?? Or, at least to less restrictive countries/routes?
Last thing I was reading about flying was that babies weren’t required to have masks on. Amazing how things seem to “evolve” according to the whims of higher-ups.
Exactly. For example in CT if you can fly from PDX to LAX for a connecting flight to CT and not have to quarantine for 14 days on on arrival. However if you stay in CA or 40ish states for more than 24 hrs on Lamont’s list you must quarantine for 14 days.
Who knew I can’t get CCPVirus in the LAX terminal but only outside said terminal. However, states may be added with no notice and you could be SOL, and my idiot Gov. wonders why no one is flying now and he precious airport expansion/remodel plans are on hold.
It is unbelievable that the travel ban to/from U.S. and Europe had endured this long. I thought for certain June 1st it would be lifted. The madness needs to end.
The answer for most things like travel right now is SKIP
IT UNTIL NORMALCY RETURNS
The airplane I fly is pretty much all international so it's impossible for me to stay in the states. There is a seniority based bidding system where we bid for our schedules every month, I can bid for more europe flying than Asia but it's got to be balanced against other factors like needed days off, etc. There have also been constant trip modifications due to Covid, you could start off scheduled for europe and end up in China.
All in all it's a first world problem though. I'm happy to have a job where I'm still working unlike many Americans who have been unnecessarily put out of work by this hysteria. It bothers me to see so many governments increasing totalitarianism under the guise of saving us from ourselves using this virus as an excuse. It scares me even more to see so many people actively campaigning for increased government control, authority that will never be relinquished after the virus is history.
