France uncovers mutant, fast-moving COVID-19 strains

Mutant strains of COVID-19 that are more contagious, but less serious, have turned up in France, possibly explaining why Europe is reporting a spike in confirmed cases.

The chief of a leading French research hospital revealed the discovery to French lawmakers last week, the Sunday Times of London reported.

Microbiologist Didier Raoult, who heads IHU Méditerranée Infection in Marseilles, told senators that the hospital’s infectious disease experts found seven coronavirus mutations during an analysis of COVID-19 tests over the summer.

One strain, Raoult theorized, was brought in by people coming from North Africa after France lifted its lockdown in June. The mutation has now disappeared, though others have popped up, the outlet reported.

“They are less severe, so something is happening with this virus, which makes it different,” Raoult testified. “The mutations we have are a rather degraded version of the initial form. At least that is our impression.”

Several scientists are disputing Raoult’s claim because of his endorsement of hydroxychloroquine as a COVID-19 cure after President Trump touted the anti-malaria drug. He has been roundly criticized for insisting that his small trial of hydroxychloroquine proved its effectiveness.

Still, Raoult’s team sorted out the strains from mountains of mass testing that the research hospital put in place after France confirmed the first cases of the virus in February.

In the past few weeks, France has seen COVID-19 intensive care admissions and deaths grow. To try to curb the numbers, the cities of Nice, Marseille and Bordeaux have imposed new restrictions on bar hours and the size of gatherings.

For those who don't know, Dr. Didier Raoult is the person most famous for his study on the efficacy of Hydroxycholoquine for the treatment of Covid-19 patients.

The same is going on here. People turning up positive for a mutant Ed strain causing symptoms that aren’t even as bad as the flu.

So where is Fauxcy instead of doing the NIH ‘splaining “The Science” that the rest of America doesn’t want to do?

So, the vaccine wouldn’t work on any mutated virus, correct?

Of course it will mutate. If the host dies before the virus the virus dies. If the host lives the virus can spread. Strong strains kill the host and they die. Weak strains don’t kill their host and live to infect. In this way the virus adapts and improves its ability to spread but decreases its lethality. Same with faster spreading. The strains that multiply quickly and spread sooner gain an advantage which selects towards quick spreading.

Liberals love Darwin and his laws of natural selection but they neither understand nor trust them. They really like the feeling of thinking they know how things work but they are not smart enough to really know how things work.

Every time the virus spreds it has a chance to mutate. Mutations are usually slight because big mutations can cause an organism to die. Since the mutations are slight it won’t affect whether a vaccination will work. The flu shot is not a good comparison to a coronavirus vaccine. The strains of the flu that are being vaccinated for are much more diverse mutations of flu viruses that have been around a lot longer than coronavirus. Besides coronavirus is a lit like common cold and most people have soe immunity to common cold so it really would be hard to tell if a vaccine was working without knowing what percentage of the population had a prior immunity either from previous colds or asymptotic exposure to coronavirus.

Off topic, but isn't in interesting how willful these viruses seem to be? They're these little non-living packets of organic information yet they have big Napoleonic plans to infect and reproduce. It's just a funny thing.

Willful and intelligent. Our lack of understanding is based on old concepts like size=intelligence and the 'mind' is contained in the 'brain'.

These creatures don't have brains, couldn't make one if they had to as they don't even have the DNA to make a cell.

For those who don’t know, he is also an esteemed doctor in France, the equivalent or greater to Dr. Anthony Fauci. I think Fauci considers Raoult a competitor.

Here’s another difference, Dr. Raoult actually has patients, and teaches medicine to young doctors who are in training in med school. Fauci hasn’t seen a live patient since he graduated from med school over 40 years ago. Might even be 50 years ago by now.

I know who I hold in higher regard. It sure isn’t Andrew Cuomo’s childhood buddy.

So one of the respected scientists who insisted that the virus was created in a LAB, also said that since it should not exist in nature that it would weaken and dissipate. This sounds like a confirmation of what that scientist said.

so if someone gets the less dangerous strain, will they be protected against the more dangerous one because of antibodies? If so, should we maybe have covid parties where the less dangerous one is present>?

Just watched “The Andromeda Strain” (1917) Very prescient and frightening but instead of the threat to worldwide human life extinction from alien viruses, our threat is coming from Hillary/Bill/Gore and the Biden’s paypals, Red China.
