I wonder if they will find gelato shops too..

Saw some ruins that had ovens and hearths and such at Pompeii, makes ya wonder what else is buried under the Herculaneum site that has seen the area rebuilt.

Like to be able to go back and see what else they have dug up every 10 years or so.

Yes but the day laborers hired by the archeologists ate them before they could be catalogued and crated.

It’s been over thirty years since I took Latin, so my skills are not what they once were.

(Terra cotta jars lowered into holes to keep food warm)

Those Archaeologists are really something, they can figure it all out.

I would have taken it for an ancient version of porta potty.

“Traces of nearly 2,000-year-old food were found in some of the deep terra cotta jars containing hot food which the shop keeper lowered into a counter with circular holes.”

Wow, those terra cotta jars are even more energy/maintaning/ effective than the 3 Yeti cups and wine snifter, I got for Christmas.

Pompeii is the best window into daily Roman life and ordinary Romans that is known to exist. Its political election graffiti show that nothing has changed in politics.

IIRC, the buried ruins were not rediscovered until the 18th Century. All previous memory of the Vesuvio eruption and of Pompeii itself had ceased to exist.
