Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith was named the 2020 Heisman Trophy winner on Tuesday night, becoming the first wideout since 1991 to earn the sport's top individual honor.
This season, Smith led the nation in receptions (105), receiving yards (1,641) and receiving touchdowns (20), having most recently taken home the Offensive Most Valuable Player award in Alabama's dominant Rose Bowl win over Notre Dame. The 22-year-old wideout has also had 100 or more receiving yards eight times this season, the most in Crimson Tide history.
“He’s probably one of the most selfless guys I’ve ever had the opportunity to coach,” head coach Nick Saban told Sports Illustrated's Pat Forde. “He’s one of the most popular guys on the team, and one of the people the players look up to because of his attitude.”
For his efforts, he was also previously named the AP Player of the Year.
Mac Jones starred in 2020 as well, throwing for 4,036 yards and 36 touchdowns with only four interceptions, orchestrating an offense that is averaging more than 48 points per game.
Trevor Lawrence, the presumptive No. 1 pick in the upcoming NFL draft, played in just 10 games this season, the fewest of his collegiate career. However, he set a career-high mark in completion percentage (69.2%) as he threw for more than 3,100 yards.
Kyle Trask is coming off the best of his three collegiate seasons, having accumulated more than 4,200 yards and thrown for 43 touchdowns. The Florida quarterback has also scored three rushing touchdowns.
By winning the Heisman, though, Smith joins an exclusive club of receivers to do so. Michigan wide receiver/returner Desmond Howard was the last wideout to win the Heisman Trophy

Newton was good but his body is broken down.
Griffin was decent but got maimed several times, and lost the speed which made him dangerous.
Lamar is an MVP
Murray looks to be pretty good, he’s been on a up and down team with a coach from college ranks learning the NFL.
Canadian
Well if there was an nfl to go to, the Heisman curse would flatten his career anyway.
;)
“3 white guys and a black”
You mean Ray Charles could spot the winner?
ROLL TIDE ROLL!!
Congratulations to DeVonta. Amazing athlete and a great individual.
Congrats to DeVonta, Mac and Najee. The fact that Bama had three nominees in the top five is proof of Bama’s insane offensive talent.
“At one time, it was a given that a senior would win the Heisman Trophy. “
I believe that changed with Archie Giffin.

Thanks for expanding. Lamar was the 1 good one I referred to.
The real vote will be the draft - the MVP will be a QB not Davonta. Davonta prob won’t go in the top 10.
If not for Najee Harris, Mac Jones would have placed second. Next year, no one will even care that he was 2nd, or 3rd. If the vote had been taken after DeVonta Smith’s performance against Notre Dame, he likely would have gotten another 75-100 1st place votes. He has NFL+ speed and quickness.
As for Mac Jones, he had a fantastic season. He also had maybe the best offensive line in the country, and the best group of receivers. Could have accomplished the same numbers at another school? Probably not. Alabama QB’s have not done so well in the NFL, but I think Jones is different. He should do very well. Sark is a genius QB and OC coach who will undoubtedly be able to recruit some of the best QBs and receivers in the country.
Bama cheats. See Bear Bryant Danny Ford etc.
