Been there many times.

Been there - massive stress from too many expectations, prejudices and outright intimidation (most in fun pulling my leg). See "Dinner For Schmucks".
But my first thought seeing "Black Barbecue" was that we can't barbecue Blacks anymore, nor them we. It just isn't nice and leaves a bad smell that's hard to get out of the robes. Wife spent too much time re-sewing those sheets to ruin them like that.

Was doin’ this sort of thing in the mid ‘70’s. Not only BBQ’s but Chitlins’, black church, playin’ “Funk” tunes & engaging in “The Dozens” ( without adding a bass drum beat and tekno music to glorified, X rated nursery rhymes, AKA rap).
At the end of the day, you’re still white & they still don’t/won’t like you.
