Only days after Carnival Cruise Line posted the new Covid measures for when ships will be sailing, those guidelines have been removed again.
In a response to Cruise Hive about why these policies have been removed from the website, the cruise line states that in their haste to keep guests and travel agents informed, they posted some information that was not finalized.
Which information had not been finalized yet remains to be seen. However, we can expect to see masks, testing, social distancing, and other protocols implemented according to the same statement in full below:
“In our haste to keep guests and travel agents informed, we posted some information that was not finalized. As we have said previously, guests should expect mask, testing, distancing and other protocols. We intend to provide more details over the coming weeks as we work to resume operations.”
What Will the Carnival Cruise Line Health Protocols Be? Carnival’s fans have been eagerly awaiting to see the measures from the cruise line and how these would be implemented during cruise vacations. There is no surprise then that the Miami-based cruise line would be eager to share these measures with guests and travel agents.
The cruise line currently has in place details to make sure guests will remain safe during a cruise vacation. These are different to the policies and procedures released recently as they have been retracted. You can check the current details right here.
Carnival updated its website with new policy procedures and as part of this change, new health procedures were detailed, which gave us an idea of what’s ahead for when cruises resume. The health policies have been developed with guidance from authorities in the United States and worldwide, including the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC).
Measures that the cruise line detailed coming into effect, but which have now again been retracted can be viewed briefly in our original post.
Many more measures were announced on the page, which is now offline. Whether or not Carnival will be keeping most of these measures or which measures may be adjusted remains to be seen. It is likely though that this will be the case. As John Heald said on his Facebook page:
“We are complying with an industry-wide disclosure process that is part of the CDC’s Conditional Sailing Order. This disclosure includes core elements of our return to service plan which will continue to evolve once we receive additional guidance from the CDC. When we have a final plan, we will of course let you know.”
These measures have likely been retracted again by Carnival Cruise Line because the line is still very much working with the CDC on implementing all measures. The situation remains fluid, and plans could change at any time as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to evolve. It would make sense that the cruise line would not want to create expectations which later need to be changed again.
Carnival Cruise Ship Carnival Has a Lot of Data to Work With Of course, the fact remains that Carnival Cruise Line is in no rush to finalize any onboard procedures. The company has a large amount of data and knowing how to operate safely during a pandemic—this information coming from Carnival’s sister company, Costa Cruises.
In July last year, Neil Palomba moved from Costa Cruises to Carnival Cruise Line to help set up and commencing cruising from U.S. ports. The former Costa President was involved in the Italian brand’s restart; he is currently responsible for restarting Carnival’s operations in North America.
When we will finally see Carnival’s plan and what it will entail remains unknown. Although cruises are currently scheduled for May this year, we’ve all come to expect this to change again. We should not expect any definitive answers before the ships are fully crewed, prepared, and ready to set sail. Before that time, anything and everything can and may very well change.
It looked, IMHO like a Bait and Switch operation, since you didn't see the onerous hidden requirements until you were ready to pay for the trip.
The Cruise lines are back on their heels and at the mercy of our CDC, and other worldwide health agencies and of course , world politicians.
IMHO, What hasn't helped the Lines is their timid acquiescence to all the regulations put on them, and kissing ass by adding more onerous regulations on themselves.

I’ve seen cruise line pandemic policies before. There is one striking omission. Not once do they mention having a good time.
LOL! Better off cruisin’ and groovin’ in your car and you don’t have to worry about buffet food...
or take a walk around your neighborhood and get to know your neighbors.

The Cruise Lines in the CLIA (Cruise Line Industy Assn.) Which includes the big lines and many of the smaller lines, are all into medical hospital types of trips onboard, and ship sponsored restricted shore excursions.
Fun, entertainment and enjoyment are rarely mentioned.

Considering how Covid spread on cruise ships even when people were quarantined in their rooms, I cannot imagine anybody in their right mind taking a cruise.

I had never wanted to take a cruise, nor did Mrs LS, although we finally thought maybe a Disney Cruise to their nearby island off FL would be ok.

In recent months I have seen more of that attitude expressed by my friends and relatives who normally go on cruises,once a year.
The Cruise lines can rely on a certain amount of people to go on cruises no matter what.
However, the Lines are not going IMHO, to be able to fill those cruise ships with the remaining passengers because of onerous health restrictions, and therefore are going to have to downsize.-Tom
Because the CEO’s thought by bending over for the bureaucrats, would bring them faster relief from restrictions. Little do they realize the more they bend, the power hungry bureaucrats will only demand more and more.
I think it is the opposite. I am receiving 3 emails and at least one phone call from cruise lines EVERY DAY trying to sell me a cruise. None of the emails spell out onerous restrictions, but instead mention free booze, free specialty dining, free excursions, free internet on ship, and even no gratuities! So good times galore but no mention of the restrictions and requirements.
I have one little cruise in June that I booked about a month ago because my friends were going ...Carnival is suppose to begin cruising in May...if not and my cruise cancels making #20 I dont have another until March 2022...
I probably wont book another one until they start cruising again...That means another year without cruising but I’m getting use to staying home and doing the hermit thingy...At my age I can be a eccentric old lady and nobody knows...LOL
But still...

About 10 years ago we did a cruise right before Christmas on the Disney Dream...My youngest granddaughters were 7, 8, 9 all cousins...
I made them all costumes Belle (Beauty), Ariel and Jasmine and we had a great time...There were 6 of the Disney ‘Princesses’ who would come out for photo ops 3/4 times a day...Disney would take pics of the children posing with the Princesses and then let the family take some too which was nice...
I was happy to see that Disney celebrated Christmas starting with “Merry Christmas” as we boarded and the lighting of a Christmas tree in the lobby...
Yes it was expensive...My part of the 4 day cruise cost as much as the 16 day TA on a higher deck that I took a few months later with Carnival but it was fun...

The change will be that every top level pol in DC gets his own personal cruise ship, and we peons never will see the inside of one again.

I wrote about the CLIA proposed procedures for reopening of about six months ago.
I’ve made it clear to my prefered travel agent that we will not be booking a cruise as long as those restrictions remain in place.
Have you ever tried to book a cruise without those ‘free’ goodies? Holland allows you to do that. Surprisingly those goodies aren’t really free. It’s more accurate to call them included in the price quoted. Azamara advertise free airfare. But they also advertise the same cruise w/o the free airfare for a substantially lower price. As a veteran cruiser, I’m sure you’ve seen the cruise lines increase prices to cover those ‘free’ goodies.
