The “message” of the Newsroom was how extreme the Republicans have become, how the media needs to stand up to them, how the media shouldn’t treat Republican arguments as if they were legitimate, etc. It’s Sorkin trash.
When I was in the Navy, it didn't matter what country I visited, the same scene would unfold:
I would be in a local pub, meeting local people, and they would discover I was an American and it would start -- "America's bad. America wants to take over the world. America wants war. America is terrible."
Later in the evening, the conversation would turn to other things and I would ask that person "What do you want to do in your life?"
The answer was always the same.
"I want to go to America."
They just can’t seem to move away from themselves.
When people ask is America the greatest country in the world, I reply YES! Consider sickle cell disease. 100,000 Americans suffer from the disease and they are a minority yet America is the world leader of n treatment for sickle cell. When I started in Nursing over 30 years ago life expectancy of sickle cell patients was mid twenties, today it is mid 40’s and we may have a cure through genetics.
You aren’t going to find any wisdom on HBO. It took four freaking years of writes and rewrites by a large crew of political hacks trying to diss Trump and Conservative voters to come up with that scene in script form. Another 6 or 8 months trying to film it. What they came up with was a pretty sickening piece of propaganda. To hell with them all.
The other thing that really really bothers me is the crap about infant mortality. There is no no ers all standard. In many countries it is hap hazardly reported. In America if it is born and sucks air it is a live birth. In other countries the kid has to live a certain period of time. If a kid is born with a defect incompatible with life it isn’t a live birth. What bull shit!
