11 arrested, 21 cars impounded at San Fernando Valley ‘street takeover’

A massive “street takeover” in the Granada Hills neighborhood of the San Fernando Valley led to 11 arrests and several injuries, including two officers who were hurt while trying to break up the crowd, authorities said.

Video of the Saturday night incident shows cars screeching and spewing exhaust as they drive in tight circles, or “doughnuts,” at San Fernando Mission and Balboa boulevards.

21 vehicles were impounded and 25 citations were issued...

So-called street takeovers or sideshows involve street racers or members of car clubs taking over a stretch of road or an intersection to perform burnouts, doughnuts and other dangerous driving stunts.

Officers across multiple agencies say the events are a serious problem throughout Southern California...

In October, a pickup flipped during a raucous takeover event in Costa Mesa, killing a 23- year-old passenger.

Prior to that fatal crash, an 18-year-old woman was struck by a reversing car and flipped into the air during a similar event in Anaheim.

“People want to do everything for [Instagram] and TikTok,” Haver said. “We have to address it.

Tires are really expensive. Watching these people burn up their tires all for a bit of smoke is pretty stupid.

I like when they go into these intersections to do donuts, the crowds like to get as close as possible to the small brained drivers doing the donuts.

To me it’s like watching a mechanical running of the bulls as the bored stupid peasants tempt fate.

I grew up right there, we just used the Gemco and Food Giant Parking Lots for stuff like this.

Believe it or not, parking lots didn’t use to have buildings or concrete stops in them, they were All just wide open with painted lines.

We are having a big problem with these street intersection takeovers in Phoenix and our Soros-elected sheriff has no interest in stopping any of it. Friday nights you can hear them starting up with the street racing around 11 pm.

...cars screeching and spewing exhaust as they drive in tight circles...

Uh, hey, journalistic dumbasses, that ain't exhaust, it's tire smoke.

Now, there is a thing called "Rolling Coal", but that's a different vehicle and situation.

Aren't so-called journalists supposed to be somewhat smart and aware of what's going on in the world they're reporting on?

Many Low Riders showing off their cars, or has that gone out of style? I just remember that hit song by the group War, called Low Rider.

Not when you steal them.

Exactly. Like the Reno Air Show on a smaller scale.

Despite decades of liberals preaching the clean air gospel, the hot rod culture appears to be alive and well in SoCal.

I think they changed the course in Reno to ensure there is no flying over or flying close to the crowds. Btw, that was a horrific crash.

latinos in their low riders and rice grinders do not care about that

and they are the people doing this kind of crapola

they may claim its a culture thing

but since white folks invented the auto, its an appropriated culture thing

I haven't seen a Gemco for almost 40 years. I still have a Super-8 movie camera that we bought at one back in the mid-70s. It still works, too!

No, all the big hot rod shops have long since closed, leaving only a few if any. Most of these people doing this buy Japanese vehicles on time payments, change the exhaust, and lower them, and...Well...that's their hot rod. The custom hot rod days of the 60s in CA is long over. Only people you see driving the high end hot rods are old guys with buck$. Fact is, most of these young folks don't know a socket extension from a crescent wrench.

It’s getting to be a problem here, too. They will take over a street and jam both ends with cars so the cops can’t get to the racers. Then, they suddenly disappear.
