Is this like the pill you put in your gas tank that gets you 200mpg?
To: Red Badger
This is actually an impressive and interesting development.

This “battery” is old news. Stargate Command already brought these “Zero Point Modules (ZPMs)” back from Atlantis.

Gosh, forgot that it was time for the monthly we solved the battery issue announcement! Believe this is the 114th monthly announcement that revolutionary battery technology breakthroughs have been made! Batteries are now free, very tiny, massless, and have unlimited storage.

I’d say this was a pretty unorthodox technique, but it’s all Greek to me.

Made me remember ads in the back of PM for gas line magnets, which were “guaranteed” to improve gas mileage by 40% or more. What a crock.

Exactly!
Weight is a unit of force equal to the acceleration of a one kilogram to one meter per second
2; i.e. One Newton. Mass is where Catholics gather to worship.
Protest all you want, but it's not that confusing.

From the comments I can tell people aren’t reading the article.
The basic concept is: instead of making the frame of a car stronger and heavier in order to carry a heavy battery, make the battery the structural frame of the car. This gets rid of the extra heavy frame and gets rid of the separate weight of the battery.
This will really make electric aircraft more efficient.

I always wondered about those gizmos. Apparently, so did PM so they did some tests. The results were that, at best, these devices did nothing, while many actually reduced both horsepower and fuel efficiency.

...could result in a battery that produces 75 Wh/kg
Unless they’ve got the units wrong, this doesn’t seem overly impressive to me.
75 Wh, at 100% efficiency will run a 0.1 hp motor for an hour.
A 100 kg battery using this technology would be able to run a 10 hp motor for an hour.
How is this supposed to be good?
