A South Korean couple mistakenly tarnished a half-million dollar American artwork when they painted over it, as seen in a cringeworthy clip.
“They thought they were allowed to do that as participatory art and made a mistake,” said Kang Wook, head of the exhibition at Seoul’s Lotte World Mall, where the accidental vandalism took place,

(The above is not a statement of fact. It is either opinion, or satire. Or both.)

I hope it wasn't this work of art.

The artist probably welcomed the input.

Maybe the cans were worth $500k not to let any more ‘art’ be done by this fool? Don’t see any real change in the before or after. And besides, what fools leave paint open in a gallery?

Must not have been that good, or else the couple would have felt no need to paint it over.

I read the headline to mean a couple accidentally created a painting that was worth over $500,000.

There is a certain irony about the art of someone starting out as a graffiti "artist" being damaged by someone painting over it. I had thought they painted over the whole thing. Instead just the three black splotches in the middle are the new section.
I think most modern art is an ever accelerating copy of the emperor's new clothes. No one in the art world dares tell the truth about it lest the whole house of cards of art, galleries and million dollar price tags falls apart.

Artist should have said what the people did was amazing and perfect and the painting is now worth a million bucks.

I wondered if the pic was of the "before" of "after".
the “reimagined” artwork, which now sports three ugly black splotches.
So the photo is the "before" *and* "after".
Perhaps the offending position is in observing a distinction without a difference.
