March 29 was chosen as the day to honor Vietnam War veterans because on March 29, 1973, the last of America’s troops left Vietnam and the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam was disestablished, according to the Vietnam War Commemoration. The relatively new military holiday was signed into law by President Donald Trump in 2017, five years after President Barack Obama proclaimed the holiday in 2012, according to White House press release archives.

Transgender adults may be more likely to have unhealthy habits and medical issues that negatively impact their quality of life than people whose gender identity matches what it says on their birth certificates, a U.S. study suggests. Researchers examined survey data from 3,075 transgender adults as well as 719,567 adults who are cisgender, meaning their gender identity matches the sex they were assigned at birth. Compared to cisgender Americans, transgender individuals were more likely to be sedentary, current smokers, and uninsured, researchers report in JAMA Internal Medicine. About 58% of men convicted in Sweden of rape and attempted rape over the past five years were born abroad, according to data from Swedish national TV. Public broadcaster SVT said it had counted all court convictions to present a complete picture in Sweden. But Sweden had thousands more reported rapes, and there is no ethnic breakdown for those. Immigration and crime are major issues in Sweden's general election campaign. The vote is on 9 September. Same-sex “marriage” in the United States is not improving the health of gays and lesbians, according to a study by the National Bureau of Economic Research, an American think-tank. In their paper, Effects of Access to Legal Same-Sex Marriage on Marriage and Health: Evidence from BRFSS, the researchers say that the legalization of same-sex “marriage” has improved access to healthcare for gays and lesbians. A young Muslim woman in New York who said she was threatened on a subway train by Donald Trump supporters made the story up, according to police. New York police arrested Yasmin Seweid, 18, on Wednesday and charged her with obstructing governmental administration and filing a false report, according to a statement.

Hundreds of people, mainly families with children, were evacuated from Moira camp during the night as rival groups of Afghans and Pakistanis clashed with clubs and stones. The former president of Charlotte's LGBT Chamber of Commerce has resigned after he came under fire from a conservative group, which noted that he is on a sex offender list and questioned his role in supporting the city's expanded nondiscrimination ordinance.
