From the Ralph Emery and Friends Show - very late 90's I think.
Very existential song by Jimmy Webb.
Effortless talent. ❤️
My 22 year old son’s best friend just started a job as a lineman.
I said “It’s cool to have a job with your own song.”
To his credit, he got the joke.
Brilliant song. Doesn’t really belong to a single genre yet still “works” in terms of narrative and melody. What amazes me the most about the song is that it achieves the effect of a key change between the verse and the chorus without having a true key change.
Glen Campbell + Jimmy Webb = magic!
This came out just about the time I started paying attention to music, and has always been among my favorites.
Yeah, came out in the period of protest songs and anti-establishment songs - a song about a guy who goes to work!
Beautiful song. Brings back powerful memories.
Was it not a “B” side of a 45 ?
My favorite song by Campbell. It’s so melodic and gorgeous to listen to. Jimmy Webb went to my community college, SBVCC, a year or two before me and apparently made a big impression on my music theory teachers.
Thank you so much for posting this. What a great 4 minutes spent! Smooth as smooth gets and I love watching musicians just soaking in the moments.
The musician in me - it sounded like the band (drummer) was pushing the tempo at the beginning, and after the first verse, right after he does a quick string tuning, looks like Glen looked at the band and mouthed them to back off.
Maybe not, but what magic.
Thanks again!
Thank You.
Glen Campbell’s “I’m Not Going to Miss You” is the most poignant song I have ever heard.
I think Wayland Jennings once said “if ever a man was born with too much talent, it was Glen Cambpell.”
Glen was and is one of the top 10 guitarists of all time.
Wow. That was great! Thanks for posting.
I saw Jimmy Webb in concert in 1977 play this song and other greats he wrote. It was a wonderful evening. With that said, Glen really nailed this song!
Thanks for posting. It walks through the song.
I understand it came to him during a ride through Kansas.
He witnessed a man on the pole by himself just doing his job. Glen practically made it a love song of service.
He understood this man and turned in his own interpretation of putting a life of hardship to it.
Beautiful.
