Your dad doesn’t have to be Daedalus for you to know about the dangers of flying too close to the Sun. But the sad tale of Icarus is worth keeping in mind as you read this story. Because as cool as it sounds, taking a flying motorcycle 15,000 feet in the sky sounds like the start of a modern myth. Especially when it can reach speeds of 300 miles per hour.
Jetpack Aviation’s “The Speeder” (which we first learned about at DesignTAXI) is a sci-fi dream made a reality. It’s like Star Wars speeders crossed with a Jet Ski and a helicopter. Featuring four turbojet engines, the 231-pound machine can run on kerosene or diesel fuel. It’s also fully stabilized and features a fly-by-wire. And now it’s ready to hit the market.

The possibilities are incredible. What a way to travel through the mountains, just follow the highways and take short cuts, drop in on isolated fishing or hunting spots, visit rancher friends, impress your significant snuggler and more!

I can just see the skies full of Karen’s on these things. Flying monkeys from Oz comes to mind.

For the money I would think a personal drone would be a lot more comfortable and useful. This motorcycle looks like fun but doesn’t look all that practical for other uses.

Yeah, the FAA might have something to say about that.

Great, I’ll be able to park my $400,000 motorcycle in my 600 million dollar home.

Only animation. No actual video? I’m skeptical. (The beer commercial music was a nice tough.)

“Yeah, the FAA might have something to say about that.”
They’ll have to be licensed as planes.
I wonder why all the bragging but the video is fake.
“For the money I would think a personal drone would be a lot more comfortable and useful.”
Maybe so. Is there such a thing?

Looked fake to me. The sheer thrust necessary to move that much weight that easily quickly and smoothly wasn’t in evidence either at the jet nozzles or on the ground underneath the thing. It had a ridiculously understated jet sound. Looked like the stuff you see faked in sci-fi movies

$380,000 Um... :) These will be popular in Dubai where Lamborghinis are disposable and totaling them is a national sport.

There are such things as personal drones, some that can carry 5 passengers, but I don’t think any are commercially available yet. Probably many years before any kind of FAA approval for them, too.
