A Colombian singer, who was insanely popular in the early-to-mid 2000s... Like, we’re talking stadium-filling levels of popularity.
She also provided the voice for Gazelle in the Di$ney movie Zootopia, for a more recent example.
Her biggest hit was: “Whatever, Wherever”, (2001) which was pretty much inescapable on North American radio for about two and a half years.

My way of explaining her is like this...Shakira was born in Colombia in 1977. She was around so long she seems older than 44. She obviously started as a singer in the Spanish language market in the late 90s in 96 at 19. Her appearance and music changed over time. Her reddish-orangy-brown hair changed to blonde. Her music changed from Pop alternative rock to danceable pop with a tinge of R&B. She moved to Spain and married a soccer player. She then entered the English language market. Never resided in America but has traveled here for tours, interviews and to visit. She gained wider fame once she sang in English and had hits. She became known for her belly dancing on stage and at times using a snake as a prop. She appeared at the Super Bowl halftime show in 2020 with Jennifer Lopez in a much criticized performance.
One correction...she gained fame in the Latin music scene by 19. But her first album was at 13 in 1990. 11 years later she rolled out her first English album.
