MOSCOW, Sept 30 – Russia’s former Imperial capital is set to play host to the wedding of a descendant of the Russian royal family in the first such event in more than a century.
Grand Duke George Mikhailovich Romanov will tie the knot with Italian fiancée Victoria Romanovna Bettarini at St. Isaac’s Cathedral in St. Petersburg on Friday in an elaborate religious ceremony with hundreds of foreign guests in attendance.
Russia’s last tsar Nicholas II, his wife and five children were killed by a revolutionary firing squad in July 1918 in the cellar of a merchant’s house in Yekaterinburg, a city 900 miles east of Moscow.

Please provide an example, because Russia ain’t it.
How does monarchy within communism work? Like that.
As it is, Russia is just providing the venue. No Romanov has even the little bit of figurehead power that Elizabeth II has.
Not well, and it’s unfortunate. Nicholas II was beginning to turn a corner when it came to domestic priorities, deciding to do more for his people. The Reds killed him and his family before he could implement, according to some documentary I watched awhile back. I guarantee that they weren’t willing to give him an opportunity by that point.
The doc was in Russian (subbed), and hell if I can recall the title.
Then again, if Tsarist Russia remained, Hitler may not have been so easily able to come to power, having been unable to receive aid he would have otherwise gotten from Stalin. If he’d found aid elsewhere, then he may have won without the brutality of the Red Army and two fronts to deal with.
Such an interesting notion.
If the bolsheviks hadn’t come to power, there might never haven been a Nazi party.
It all came from Bolshevism. All of the misery and horror of the 20th century. The ‘errors of russia’ indeed.
FRiends - look carefully at the symbol in the centre of a post-tsarist 1917 ruble. *That* symbol on russian money, at a time where Hitler was in some trench on the western front.
This is a good ...
Nice move.
The art, culture, music, literature, religion and history of Russia is rich and amazing. For that culture to only identified with commies like Stalin dreadful.

Murdering the family of Nicholas was, in my opinion, one of the worst moments in modern history.
Another was the so-called French revolution, which in NO WAY resembled our American revolution.
Revolutions DO NOT HAVE TO BE SAVAGE TAKEOVERS.
I despise what the French and the Russians did to their countries.
And if we do NOT STOP these “progressives” in America, we will meet the same disgrace in history.
If they offer you a tour of the wine cellar, I’d politely decline.
I'll leave now... 🤓
“How does monarchy within communism work?”
Consider North Korea.
How does monarchy within communism work?
_____
Russia is far from being communist. Sleepy Joe may be more communist than Putin.
Putin is actually very fond of Tsarist Russia. He would really want to be the next Tzar. So having Romanov wedding in Russia is OK with him. Actually very desirable.
What was life like under the TZARS? In Dr. Zhivago Lara’s boyfriend walked past some pretty destitute folks before pulling Lara away from the ritzy crowd after she shot the guy who raped her.
You think the American Revolution wasnt savage ???
What was life like under the TZARS?
________
Dr Zhivago notwithstanding (do not believe what the movies do), it was pretty rough.
Russia under Tzars was poor country with huge army and elaborate state security system.
People were like, “it cannot get worse that this”, so they were susceptible to communist propaganda.
Lenin and Stalin proved them wrong. It got a lot worse under them! Real terror and starvation!
What I am trying to point out - with Putin past, I see people arguing here that he is a communist.
NO! He is a tzarist.
He reveres the Russia tsarist past and wants to restore it, preferably with him serving as the next tzar.
You can’t have freedom without killing your enemies. Look at Chile under Pinochet.
Once a government is overthrown the takeover folks have to be ruthless. It took Pinochet 15 years to step down and the left is still lurking out there. All the 3rd world people coming here will feed the violence that’s coming. Capitalism is the 3rd way and it works better. Not perfect.
Putin getting married?
Lenin and the Bolsheviks could have sent the Romanoffs into exile in Canada or Australia and been better regarded.
