I remember my late grandmother telling me about this. She said it was God’s way of telling us he was unhappy with the way things were going, especially how many people were getting killed in WW1.

I’ll often drop a small object, a crucial nut or screw, from off my workbench and never find it again even after a microscopic search within a 10’ radius - totally gone, just disappeared off the face of the Earth. So, yah, I believe in miracles.
