Why refusing the vaccine isn't inherently Christian
National Post ^ | Nov. 3, 2021 | Brian Bird and Kristopher Kinsinger

From the start, the pandemic has been responsible for spreading not only a virus, but polarization. Beyond the immense toll that COVID-19 has taken and continues to take on health and human life, the unnecessary social division that has accompanied the pandemic is a tragedy unto itself.

We are dismayed by the notable degree of skepticism and denialism about COVID-19. As Christians belonging to different theological traditions, we are especially discouraged that many of our fellow believers have adopted these attitudes.

Moreover, as followers of Christ working for non-sectarian organizations — a public university and a legal charity, respectively — we wish to set the record straight for the benefit of our non-Christian peers. Our message is simple: there is nothing inherently Christian about opposing the COVID-19 vaccines.

The Catholic Church , for its part, says there is no moral or ethical impediment to taking the vaccines, whether related to abortion or any other bioethical concern. Catholics in Canada have been invited by their bishops to be vaccinated since the start of the rollout. Leading Protestant ethicists have reached the same conclusion on the morality of the vaccines.

If the COVID-19 vaccines are ethically permissible, why do some Christians refuse to get inoculated? The leading reasons are well-known, and they are no different than those cited by non-Christians.

Some people have never accepted the gravity of the pandemic, or even its reality. So it’s no surprise that they would reject a vaccine that is, in their view, a solution in search of a problem.

Others doubt the safety of the COVID-19 vaccines. Among Christians who harbour these doubts, many fear the vaccines impair fertility. Despite the absence of credible evidence to substantiate this fear, it has acquired a firm grip on many individuals.

On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you evildoers’” (Matthew 7:21-23)

Has the medical establishment told the truth about the vaccines even once?

The Bible teaches against self harm. I have medical conditions that make getting the current set of vaccines very dangerous for me ... so, no thank you.

Getting kinda tire of my Faith being called into question because I refuse to get a shot.

Oh and BTW....these shots ARE NOT vaccines. I wish people would stop reffering to them as something they are not.

The Catholic Church, by its actions (or lack thereof) appears to say there is no ethical impediment to all kinds of things that would have made its Founder pretty unhappy.

Those are deeds, not words.

The two people have no authority nor understanding of Scripture that impacts this issue in one iota.

Why should anyone care these people are “dismayed.” They should be looking inward as to why they believe they have to speak put about stupid things as though they are a spiritual matter to get vaccinated for COVID-19.

Lightweight idiots.

These people presume to judge me, knowing nothing about my personal health situation, knowing nothing about the research I’ve done regarding the vaccines, and knowing nothing about the things I am doing - on a daily basis - to prevent or minimize infection. They took their shot and now are smugly judging and virtue-signaling, which is typical of many of the vaxxed. It’s their little brownie button.

There’s no credible evidence they DON’T impair fertility either....can you say NO LONG TERM CLINICAL TESTING??

The article begins with a lie in the very first line:

"From the start, the pandemic has been responsible for spreading not only a virus, but polarization."

The pandemic isn't responsible for the polarization of the country. The Dims are. That's all they know how to do. Since before I was born they were all about Alinsky's divide and conquer strategy. The china virus was yet another crisis they couldn't let go to waste.

Blaming the division on the china virus is like blaming anemia on Rosie O'Donnell.

You should be dismayed, to say the least, by what gave rise to the skepticism and "denialism."

Dear author, even in Catholic teaching the moral value there is in the fine print.

If someone has recovered from Covid, they may not have the same dangers as an unvaccinated individual and hence the moral question of them needing the vaccine changes.

The reason today is purely because it is remote cooperation with an vaccine developed through evil research and hence a persons intent to be spared from a deadly virus is a reasonably greater good.

But if you had Covid, is the Virus suddenly more dangerous? Doesn’t the situation change?

Covid 19 at its worse is a bad cold. Nothing more. The lies about covid 19 and all of the lockdowns, Mas mandates, social distancing and “gene therapy” jab shot have done far more damage and caused more deaths than the bad cold cost.
