As of Monday, Albertans entering businesses participating in the province’s vaccine passport program will need to show a QR code as proof of vaccination.
The change means previous provincial immunization records, including those issued at the time of vaccination and saved from MyHealth Records, will no longer count as valid proof for businesses taking part in the Restrictions Exemption Program.
The QR code can be accessed via alberta.ca/CovidRecords , where it can be printed or saved to a phone. A free printed vaccine record with a QR code can also be obtained by calling 811 or visiting a registry office.
Businesses are expected to download the AB COVID Records Verifier app on an Apple or Android device to scan QR codes. After scanning a code, the app displays a green check mark or a red X to indicate vaccination status.(snip)
Dormuth said a survey of Alberta businesses completed by the CFIB found 48 per cent of businesses are seeing lower sales since proof of vaccination was introduced, with 38 per cent of respondents facing implementation costs.
As well, 46 per cent of those businesses said staff had been subject to abuse or negativity related to the program.
“It’s always upsetting to hear, whenever we hear these stories,” Dormuth said. “If you have a problem with it, please take it up with your local MLA or the provincial government. Business owners are doing the REP because they need their business to survive and this is the way to get their business back to normal operations.”

The QR code requirement marks the second time in three weeks Alberta is tightening rules around its vaccine passport program. In late October, partially vaccinated Albertans were ruled ineligible from entering businesses participating in the program.

Orwellian.
I wonder what a “vaccinated” QR code is worth on the open market. An enterprising hospital employee could make a fortune selling codes from people who die after getting the jab.
All the B.S. we used to hear about Alberta being conservative was just that - B.S. Arresting pastors....mandatory digital “your papers please”. Glad I visited Banff and Jasper already...
Push is coming to shove soon. And after that?
Banning your customers , LOL
The employees and employers deserve to hear the abuse, go along with the crap don’t be surprised when people despise you. Everyone should resist all this useless BD.
One step away from the mark.
Pardon my ignorance but what is QR?
QR stands for Quick Response. It's those square shaped digital patterned markers containing various bits of information that can be decoded. I'm sure someone will post an example of one here shortly.
Surely you know about bar codes, those patterns of vertical lines that usually contained product code identification? QR codes were developed (in Japan actually) to be able to include more information in a more compact space and to be read and decoded quickly.
Nothing. There's nothing after that. Life is not a Hollywood movie. The good guys don't always win. History has pretty much proven that to be axiomatic.
It’s an image that is functionally similar to a barcode but generally encodes a web URL.
Canada sure is going to hell
True, chaos and anarchy usually follow. Or just complacency.
He's getting out the marrow in your backbone,
And the seven trumpets blowing sweet rock and roll,
Gonna blow right down inside your soul.
Pythagoras with the looking-glass, reflects the full moon,
In blood, he's writing the lyrics of a brand new tune.
---from Genesis, Supper's Ready (1972)---
One more move to the mark of the beast.
fyi
Just wear a mask to get back to normal, just get the jab to get back to normal, just show a paper card to get back to normal, just scan a QR code to get back to normal.
How long before they say you must get a booster to "pass" for entry.
In Panama, citizens returning from another country must show a QR Code at the airport upon arrival. It happened to me in early November. A gentleman worked with me to update my records then I was able to get into the short line and whisked through immigration. However, it took about 15 minutes for my records to be updated.
For now, it is not used as proof to get you in or out of any businesses except the casinos where they would have accepted written vaccine records had I pushed the issue.
What I can’t stand is how these QR Codes have replaced menus at restaurants. Unless I order from memory, I have to stop going to them.
