The Best Time to Take Your Supplements: Your body uses vitamins and minerals in different ways—and timing makes a difference
Epoch Times ^ | 12/06/2021 | Lisa Roth Collins

If you are taking supplements, two things are critical to get the most out of them: quality and timing. You need to start with quality products made by reputable manufacturers, and you need to know the best time to take your supplements, including which ones should and shouldn’t be taken along with others.

We’re not going to talk about quality and reputation here. Instead, let’s discuss the timing of your supplement use and how you can optimize the rewards from each of your choices. One approach to supplement use is to consider which ones to take during three main parts of the day: morning, afternoon, and evening.

Morning Supplements

Here’s a tip: two of the morning supplements—vitamins E and CoQ10—should be taken with healthy fats. We suggest avocado toast or a green smoothie with avocado or coconut oil as a breakfast choice containing healthy fats!

Afternoon Supplements

Several of these supplements should be taken with food, so immediately after lunch is a convenient and easy-to-remember time to take them.

Evening Supplements

Other Things to Know About Taking Supplements

Keep these tips in mind when choosing and taking your supplements.

Bottom Line

To get the most benefit from your nutritional supplements, it’s essential to adjust the timing of your dosing and know which supplements you should take in combination with others. And if you can’t remember to take your supplements at specific times, just do it when you remember to and enjoy the benefits to your health.

Thanks for posting that. I take NAC and Quercetin morning. At bedtime, I take B12, C, D, Zinc, Melatonin, NAC and Quercetin.

Sounds like I need to re-evaluate when I take things.

I take what I take when I take it.

I got enough to keep track of without this!

Some good tips there.
I’ve learned that a supplement you take one year w/o problems may bring about a negative experience when you start taking it again, after years of not doing so.

I used to take Fish Oil tablets on a regular basis, mainly for arthritis. It didn’t seem to be changing anything, so I stopped after a few years.

10 or so years later, I decide I want to try Fish Oil because it may protect against alzheimiers. I begin taking it again. Only a few hours later, I get this terrible headache. I rarely get headaches. I stopped the Fish Oil. Next day, the headaches stopped too. I threw the rest of that $14.00 bottle of Fish Oil straight into the nearest dumper. Just another lesson in life.

My hepatologist has me on a specific schedule for all the meds I take, but as far as what to take with or without food or drink, that’s pretty much left up to me.
Thanks for posting this, some good info here!

I like Flintstone’s chewables day or night!

The writer didn't cite any data or a clinical study (which requires an experimental group and a control group) in support of these conclusions.

I’ve always taken minerals in the evening and multi-vitamins in the morning. B vitamins keep me awake if I take them at night, worse than coffee.

Thanks.

I won’t be taking a handful of all of these, at once, anymore!

(Why did I not know this until now?)

Pretty involved timing. I take Milk Thistle for liver, Zinc Querctin, Armour thyroid, blood pressure (amolodine?), Combo of Dim, Curcumin, Bioperine, and DHEA in the morn on an empty stomach. Never have a problem. Later after eating, I take a Mulit-vitamin, high potency D3, and Saw Palmetto. Also, no GI problems. I’m 71 and my schedule seems to work.

I think two daily multi-vitamins, about 12 hours apart will do the trick. How did our ancestors do it, aside from making sure they ate from a wide variety of foods.
