An Irishman has been arrested for breaking into the Romanian Presidential Palace after 'mistaking it for his hotel' while drunk during a night out in Bucharest.
The Irish citizen reached the third floor of the building in a breach that has ignited a review into the security of the People's House. ..
He allegedly thought the Palace of the Parliament was his hotel after he returned from a night out in the Romanian capital....
When quizzed by police, he was unable to remember how he broke in. ...

Was he staying in the Presidential Suite?
Feel good story of the day.
Certainly not your average drunken night out story
Had me cracking up!
I travel to Romania a lot and been to the outside of that building, and even took a photo of it, I could even see it from the roof of my Hotel, its that big.
Wow
That IS big
It is, as for this jackass from Ireland I’m sure the Romanian government is taking care of him, to where he will regret doing such a thing.
He was from Florida.
Sounds like an insurrection to me. /s
Reminds me of when I was waiting for the Macau ferry after a night of gambling and drinking. I passed out in the waiting area and woke up looking for the bathroom.
I found a bathroom and then walked out of the terminal and jumped in a taxi and told the guy to bring me to my Hong Kong address. The guy said “this is Macau”.
So I got out and tried to go back through immigration. The lady said “How did you get out here?” I said “That’s not my problem. My problem is getting back in there and getting on the ferry that’s leaving in 5 minutes.”
They had no idea how I got out of the holding area and neither did I. So they let me back in, because they didn’t want some drunk American from Hong Kong hanging around. Scratching their heads the whole time...
Autopilot drunk gets you anywhere you don’t need to be.
when my husband was stationed in Japan, one of his drunk buddies stormed a house thinking he belonged there.
So a 6’5” blonde bellowing hulk enters your tiny house at 2 in the AM.....and of course the owners were a tiny, older, Japanese couple who called the police.
That story always makes me laugh-
Nothing like perpetuating the stereotype (a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image) - a drunken Irishman!
Nicolae Ceaușescu (1918-1989), the late and very UNLAMENTED supreme leader of Romania, an avid imitator of both Stalin and Kim Jong-Il of North Korea (NK), apparently got his inspiration for this from a 1971 visit to NK. Building got started in 1984 (paging George Orwell) and took until 1997 to 'complete' (1,100 rooms in design, only 400 complete). Status of the eight underground level that includes a nuclear bunker is unknown!
Unfortunately, poor Nikki never got to enjoy his 'creation' as Romania got swept up in the 1989 collapse of the Warsaw Pact countries. Initially there were demonstration (December 1989) in the western parts near Hungary which was peacefully changing but Ceaușescu ordered the army to put the perceived revolt by force and they obeyed, causing injuries and deaths. When it became known who made the order, the entire country appeared to erupt in the sole violent overthrow of these countries. When his army defected, Ceaușescu and his wife (equally reviled) escaped Bucharest by helicopter on 22 December. The escape was thwarted by the army though and after a very efficient trial, the Ceaușescus got a Christmas gift from their countrymen, a firing squad!
When I look back at all the Romanian Presidential Palaces, Dallas book depositories, hardened nuclear silos, and unmanned Alaskan weather stations I've broken into while drunk...
Regards,
“’Palace of Parliament has protection systems developed by The Securitatae (the former secret police of Communist Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceausescu)...”
Holy cow. He’s lucky they didn’t walk him straight out to “The Wall”.
This wouldn’t be funny if it were anyone other than an Irishman.
And they say, “God invented alcohol to keep the Irish from conquering the world.”
Paddy was one pint of Guiness from taking over Southeastern Europe!
