The Thrill of Buc-ee’s, Once a Texas Roadside Oasis, Is Gone [Snowflake to the extreme]

As gas stations go, there are few chains that have managed to capture the attention of travelers — and eaters — like Buc-ee’s. The Texas-born chain is a highway oasis, boasting a slew of clean bathrooms, a dizzying array of snacks and prepared foods, and tons of merch emblazoned with the chipper face of its mascot, a beaver named Bucky. [...]

Founded in 1982, the chain slowly built a local cult following and in 2001, owner Arch “Beaver” Aplin expanded the convenience store into a full-fledged travel center in Luling, Texas. More locations popped up across the state in the following years, and by 2019, the chain expanded outside of the state with a location in Robertsdale, Alabama. Buc-ee’s has continued expanding at an impressive clip since then, opening locations in Georgia, Florida, and soon, Tennessee.

The report tagline says it all; "The glorified gas station has lost its luster thanks to over-saturation of the market and the owner’s ties to the state’s worst politicians" Thus we have travel&food reporting made secondary to this snowflakes politics! The comments to this online report do rake her over the coals!

For the under-informed, Buc-ees' stores are MASSIVE highway convenience stores, frequently found with 100 pumps and a retail store loaded with goodies! Formerly confined to Texas, they are expanding in the Southeast US.

When my pal was in Texas, he got me a 7-pound bucket of bacon grease from Buc-ee's.

Yum.

I got one Yogism for the little princess. “Nobody goes there anymore because it’s too crowded.” She’s an idiot.

Not to mention competitively priced gas at the pumps and fast service, good food, and cheap coffee in the store.

Merely a signal to the elites to destroy Buc-ee’s

That chipper pic/logo of Buc-ee looks like every dude in pervert row at a strip joint. I love their brisket sandwiches though and their breakfast stuff.

I’ve never been to a Bucee’s , but I’ve heard of them. It seems to me that this piece boils down to a typical whiny leftist finding himself unable to continue patronizing a business because he dislikes the politics of the owner(s).

I went to the Buc-ees’ up in Daytona a few weeks ago. While it was incredibly large with countless food/merchandise options, it’s too big for me. I think they have over 100 gas pumps, which is nice. But going inside for anything is just too much. If I need gas or a snack, I’ll happily stick to WaWa.

Just like Wegmans, it’s a nice place to visit but not on a regular basis. My little Publix is 2 minutes away and I can go buy half and half and be home in well under 10 minutes. If that was a Wegmans, it would take me 10 minutes to even find the half and half.

As for people dumping on them for their political affiliations, they should mind their own business.

I always guessed the name Buc-ees was a play on the name Stuckey’s that I loved going to as a kid. If my dad only knew how many times I faked needing to go to the restroom (he probably had a good idea lol)…

My disenchantment with the chain might also have something to do with the fact that founder Arch Aplin is a financial supporter of the some of the state’s most loathsome politicians. He’s given more than a million dollars to Gov. Greg Abbott, who signed the country’s most restrictive abortion ban into law in 2021, and donated to the campaign for Attorney General Ken Paxton, who is currently under indictment for alleged securities fraud. The donations sparked a minor controversy, with some Democrats vowing to boycott the chain, but the boycott never gained much traction.

Still, it’s hard for me to justify putting money in the pockets of a man who’s willing to support politicians that actively spend their days thinking of new ways to marginalize people of color, trans people, women, and disabled people.

I bought some Peazey's curry spice last week and lots of FRiends set me straight about Mr. Peazey.

How do you like that? The boycott "never gained much traction." Texans boycotting a good conservative business owner? Yeah, fat chance of that!
