The corpse of a 66-year-old man was carried to a post office by two fraudsters in an alleged bid to claim his pension, in scenes reminiscent of the 1989 film Weekend At Bernie's.
In the dark comedy movie, a pair of insurance salesmen lug around the body of their murdered boss - pretending he's still alive - and lose and recover his corpse, which is clothed and wearing tinted glasses, several times.
Irish police are investigating whether the elderly man, named locally as Peadar Doyle, may have been dead for up to two days when yesterday morning's incident took place.
The fraudsters, one of whom knew the 66-year-old well, had put a jumper over Mr Doyle's face and a hat on his head.
Both men, who were in their 30s, went into the post office and tried to get the money but staff told them they needed his next of kin there or Mr Doyle himself.

Waking Ned Devine. When my British wife tells me the Brits make horrible movies, but good TV, I make her watch this to cement proof that at least one brilliant Brit movie made it past her filter.
“Wasn’t this a movie... “Waking Ned Devine” ?
Sorta. It’s about an Irish dude who died and his “friends” eventually get the money. Back then, I was on a flight back to the US from Asia, and they showed the movie in-flight.
I can think of several brit flicks I enjoyed....most of ‘em are gangster genre though
I watch a lot of Brit TV when Amazon has it for .99 a month.
A lot of good shows. Although, their remake of Professor T missed the mark. I watched the original Belgium version. Quirky but I watched all of it.
“He’s not dead, he’s pining for the shamrocks”
Irish?
Do you think alcohol could have had a part at all in the decision making here?
On the way home they stopped by the polling place and shoved him into a voting booth.
Democrats!
Blue man group.
Two men and a corpse walk into an Irish post office. Stop me if you’ve heard this one.

“We’re looking for the dead letter office.”
Covid masks would have been helpful in disguising any signs of mortality, and would also be helpful in any attempts at impromptu ventriloquism to give the impression of life.
Was that wrong?
lol
Good movie, worth watching more than once.
It was more developed with less slapstick if I recall correctly. I need to go back and watch it again.
