The Native American Guardian’s Association and five individual plaintiffs with Native American heritage filed a lawsuit against Colorado, challenging the constitutionality of S.B. 21-116, a law prohibiting the use of Native American mascots by schools.
Waste of time.
Funny, Guardians suing for allowing native American mascots in CO. Meanwhile, the Cleveland Indians are no more and are now the Guardians.
It’s about time native Americans speak up. Indian mascots are not racist. Same goes with Aunt Jemima.
That is an interesting twist. Aren’t we calling our Space Force “guardians” or something like that? The name must test well with focus groups.
I live in Ruidoso NM, home of the Mescalero Apache reservation. My wife is Apache. My kids are Apache. Heck, I’m Irish by ancestry but literally grew up on the reservation so much that I am literal ceremonial member of the tribe (done for the kids).
The public schools are predominately Apache, and called, respectively, the Warriors and the Braves.
We’re having a heck of a time getting sports apparel.
Sante Fe is doing its best to make us rename our school mascots.
It’s beyond stupid.

Generic enough to pass wokester scrutiny, with a connection to the popular “Guardians of the Galaxy”.
The Cleveland baseball team gave some lame reference to statues on a bridge in Cleveland that are known as Guardians.
Meh, whatever.
It’s past time. Too late. If they voiced this opinion earlier, they were drowned out by people purporting to speak on their behalf.
Now the NFL has the Washington Commies — I mean Commanders. Or WC, for short. Wait, isn’t WC a water closet?

Everyone consider a few things.
First off, no one wants to name and cheer for something they despise.
2nd, to that point, perhaps uncomfortably, notice there have been plenty Indian team names, and no “black” mascots. In America, I mean.

Very old nickname, not quite accurate. The Browns are the league punching bag. Along with the Lions, they are the perpetual door mats of the league, pure and simple, losers.
I used to be a big Indians fan, but with the politicization of sports, I’m more of a casual fan. I’m not butt hurt over the name change, but it’s just one more indicator of the lousy Cleveland baseball team ownership. I’m sure they caved just to sell more gear. Meanwhile, any time they get a really talented player, they trade him off. The name change was unnecessary and decouples me from memories of rooting for an often awful team.
Exactly. No blacks allowed on food packages anymore. You know, cuz they can’t cook and they’d probably make it dirty. /s

Browns have really been doing better and I pull for them a lot. Technically I’m a Raven fan but married to Steeler fan so I really like to dig into them since they can be so obsessed.
But yes, I’ve even abandoned horse racing because of all this virtue-signaling. Football still important to my sad lonely mom so it kind of comes up all the time anyway.

If they are successful and Washington decides to become unwoke, it is only a short distance from Commanders to Comanches. Just change a few letters and you don’t even need to buy new jerseys.

I’m old, I remember when the Browns were good enough to lead to real disappointment. Now, they’re comically bad. Yeah, they had a good year 2 years back, now it’s all unravelling. Just like the baseball team, the owners of the football team are clowns. So, every once in a while, just like the Lions, the Browns show signs of competence, only to let it all fall apart in a very short time.
It’s about time native Americans speak up.
