BERLIN (AP) — Germany is marking the 75th anniversary of the most famous plot to kill Adolf Hitler, honoring those who resisted the Nazis — who were stigmatized for decades as traitors — as pillars of the country’s modern democracy amid growing concerns about the resurgence of the far-right.
Chancellor Angela Merkel, who will speak Saturday at an annual swearing-in ceremony for some 400 troops before addressing a memorial event, paid tribute ahead of the anniversary to executed plot leader Col. Claus von Stauffenberg and his fellow conspirators and highlighted their importance to modern Germany.
“Only if we understand our past can we build a good future,” she said.....

“Only if we understand our past can we build a good future,” she said.....IOW, Merkel would be against CRT, which is anathema to understanding history. By all means teach American history, with all of its warts and misdeeds. However, one cannot understand "history", while presenting the good that was accomplished.

who were stigmatized for decades as traitorsHah? By the end of the war Hitler was roundly reviled by most of Germany. If these conspirators were considered traitors for trying to assassinate the paper-hanging corporal it was by a decided minority.

Another high level plot to assassinate Hitler included the participation of a pastor:
Dietrich Bonhoeffer , one of his tasks was to take advantage of his contacts in England to arrange a meeting with Churchill. He was rebuffed by Churchill.Bonhoeffer was executed weeks before the end of the war.
The link above is part one of a two part piece I wrote on him.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer That's interesting, I though he was killed only for speaking out.

I read a 400 page biography on Bonehoeffer.
He was a righteous dude.

It wasn’t only the conspirators - their families were also treated as traitors.
My father-in-law became a judge in Berlin after WWII and was able to restore von Stauffenberg’s widow’s pension for her husband’s service. It wasn’t popular.

Of course, while Hitler lived. Merkel said they were treated as traitors for decades which is untrue.

Oskar Schindler said when he returned to Germany after the war, that the Germans openly scorned him for what he did, he couldn’t live in Germany because of it.

They just never got anyone brave enough to simply pull out a pistol and shoot him dead.
