Crying in remorse as I chomped’: Woke eaters are giving up octopus
NY Post ^ | 04/22/2022 | Beth Landman

On a rainy afternoon in April, Union Square Park was, as is often the case, home to a band of protesters. This time, the cause was not inequality or political oppression, it was a mollusk — an octopus to be precise. Protesters held signs reading “let’s stop this cruelty” and “#stopoctopusfarm” beneath images of the leggy creature.

Amidst rising demand for the tentacled delight, Spanish company Nueva Pescanova has announced that it will open the world’s first octopus farm in 2023. But the plan is mired in controversy with environmentalists, zoologists and animal lovers decrying that it would be a cruel practice. The creatures, who do poorly when confined, have been increasingly found to be intelligent and sentient.

“It’s a giant step backward with what we now know,’’ said Fleur Dawes, communications director for In Defense of Animals, the organization behind the Union Square rally. “Thousands of people have signed petitions trying to stop this farm, and we’ve received about 20,000 emails.”

My only complaint is that some are cooked into rubberiness...

Go to a Greek or high end Mexican restaurant. They know how to make it.

I believe Vaughn Meader, a comedian and JFK impersonator started the “Clothe Your Horse” nonsense. But thousands of people did sign a petition to have the horse clothed.

Definitely intelligent animals, but “sentient” means “self-aware,” an attribute that I have always understood to distinguish humans from animals.

Dolphins have been known to preen when a mirror is placed before them underwater.

My experience was in Spain, where they’re pulled right out of the Mediterranean. Most were very tasty, but there were a couple of bumps...

the last time I had them they were tiny little almost-whole ones, at an Asian buffet restaurant. (What are those called?)

Unless in the future I can try them at a really fancy restaurant, I think I’ll pass :-)

My wife dined on them in Spain. She liked it until she noticed the little suckers on the small tentacles. She asked what they were and I told her. I ate the rest of her soup. It was delicious.

Is this because the octopuses come from another planet, where they are in charge?

You’re right. A liberal democrat pulled off a ‘fake hate’ scam and made some traditional Americans look like fools. “Thousands” out of millions of citizens... but liberals had a big laugh.

I’m sure we could come up with something equally embarrassing - but it’s unlikely press butt boys would carry the joke for us... The MSM tends to ‘catch’ things that make democrats look like fools. Odd how that works.

Seriously - have YOU ever seen ‘the press’ make one of their so called mistakes that damages Democrats?

Never happens.
