Subway has struggled in the year since it hired soccer star and left-wing activist Megan Rapinoe as a national spokeswoman, with hundreds of stores closing across the nation.
The fast-food chain -- whose best-known spokesman, Jared Fogle, went to jail for child pornography possession in 2015 -- hired Rapinoe as a pitchwoman early last year.
One commercial featured the purple-haired anthem protester knocking food out of a man's hand with a soccer ball.
Hiring Rapinoe didn't help the company's fortunes, however: In 2021, 1,043 Subway locations closed, the New York Post reported Thursday.
The chain already had been losing stores in the two years before she became the chain's pitchwoman.
At the height of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, Subway lost 1,609 stores. In 2019, it lost 999, the Post reported…

Their turkey is ground up with soy. Soy contains isoflavones which act as phytoestrogens. Guess what that will do to a male or female body.
Jersey Mike has a monthly promotion for veterans and firefighters. And never, EVER order tuna from Subway as per the lawsuit, it’s not tuna.
I never saw one ad, thank the Big Guy upstairs.
Because they deal in ideas and image, marketing people tend to be superficial, woke, fashionable ideologues
That’s how they convince themselves that a an angry, ugly, pink-haired bull-dyke spokesperson will convince average Americans to buy more sandwiches.
Subway sandwiches were a reasonable value thirty years ago.
Now they are way overpriced for cold cut sandwich.
They don’t even have roast beef anymore.
Just shut that outfit down.
Subway is unloved and unwanted.
We no longer bother with that franchise.
It decided that it despised the National Anthem and everything it symbolizes.
I feel sorry for the owners who had no say in the hiring of the hateful useless soccer player.
Jersey Mikes is much better, though has 1/20 as many stores.
