Washington Post:
"hundreds of combatants — dozens of them seriously wounded — were evacuated from the complex Monday."
Reuters:
"The Ukrainian regiment at the steel plant said it was fulfilling orders to save the lives of troops by evacuating them."
AFP:
"Rescue mission under way at Azovstal as hundreds evacuated"
All of these articles make it sound as if the people involved are being "rescued" by the Ukrainian military and taken to a neutral or safe location. Mission over, on to the next task for them.
None of these articles use the words "surrender", "prisoner of war" or "detention" which is the actual reality of the situation.
These are all military troops who have surrendered, being taken to detention centers in enemy controlled territory. Some of them will face criminal trials for war crimes.
So why are our journalists clearly coordinating to misinform and mislead us?
The use of the word "evacuate" is absolutely dishonest and ridiculous in this context.
It CAN'T be an accident that disparate news organizations are all misleading us in exactly the same contrived way at the same time.
Isn't the implication of that very disturbing? That journalists from so many organizations are somehow all instantly on the same page to use the same grossly misleading language?
Is there some big brother blast network that gives them exactly the words and narrative to use?
There was another extreme example along these lines recently.
Russia had newly started insisting that payments for gas be made directly to their banks.
Somehow all the western journalists absolutely refused to report the simple truth of the matter.
That the west had seized 300 billion dollars the Russians had in foreign exchange accounts, and that if payments continued to be paid into those accounts, they would likely not be paid at all for their gas.
They reported all sorts of malicious motives for insisting on payment directly to Russian banks, but carefully avoided the simple truth that they just wanted to get paid and not give gas away for FREE.
Dozens and dozens of articles all had this same journalistic malpractice, it was very rare to find one that correctly informed their readers.
Journalism is dead, long live the propaganda narrative
They take their cell phones into the can, with them. The encryption is probably Chinese. There will be no more WikiLeaks.
The only people with less accountability and culpability than than federal government employees are the liberal media in this country.
Two of them actually, AP & Reuters.
The Journo-list wasn’t just a cocktail club...................
“Some of them will face criminal trials for war crimes.”
Given the circumstances of the battle, I don’t see the likelihood of a war crime having been committed by the Ukrainian defenders of the plant.
Another extreme example of the death of journalism. I have to admit, I fell for the whole evacuation BS line.
“That journalists from so many organizations are somehow all instantly on the same page to use the same grossly misleading language?”
The US government tells the journalists. The journalists tell Americans.
Simple and easy, and hardly any work at all.
Life hasn’t been this easy for journalists since Goebbels.
Like Trump said, the media is corrupt. It’s past time to do something about it.
There are multiple testimonies from civilians saying they were held hostage at the plant against their will.
We know these testimonies are from exactly the people who were at the plant because they were intentionally shown by the military there. There are a lot of other testimonies from civilians in Mariupol of other war crimes as well, many along the same lines of being threatened or shot at when they tried to flee the city.
The Azov units there were singled out by the US congress as being ineligible for direct payments because of their history of atrocities.
They systematically did war crimes on ethnic Russians (ukrainian citizens) for years.
I would be extremely surprised if they are exchanged as prisoners. Some will be prosecuted. Granted there were a lot of other military there who were not Azov also, maybe they will be exchanged.
Get on your pony and ride. The world has been changing since
the beginning of time. Always has been and will continue to
the end of time. Do the best to enjoy the years you have.
yes, it’s called the CIA
Even those here supporting the Neocons on Ukraine have to start to wonder WHAT OTHER LIES they’re getting from the Western media.
But I understand that they have personal reasons for wanting the war to continue.
If anything the media is an anti-pattern. Whatever they say, it's probably the opposite. There are different techniques to use to avoid media trappings. Somethings like Ukraine and Russia, you can evaluate on the basis for personal and national interest. There is none, so act appropriately. The Buffalo shooter, wait for others to quote his manifesto or read it yourself. You know for experience that gun grabbers will make him to sound like a MAGA Trump supporter and call for tougher gun laws.
Really?
The way I see it (and not necessarily disagreeing with you) is that the job the media takes for itself is shown in its work product. It's job is to mislead, or lead in a direction it chooses, facts be damned.
It's the consumer's responsibility to not be a sucker, but many consumers fall for the shills lie, "this is an honest game, we are morally and ethically bound to give truth."
The lying media IS doing its job - of lying.
Shocking? To whom?
“Given the circumstances of the battle, I don’t see the likelihood of a war crime having been committed by the Ukrainian defenders of the plant.”
Yes and no: The actual Ukrianians will be held in prisoner of war camps until the end of hostilities.
The Azovs, on the other hand, will be put on trial once processed out of Mariupol - the ones found to have committed war crimes during the 2014 to 2022 (likely all of them, LOL), will be punished per Russian law.
The (foreign) mercenaries will likely be executed, in accordance with the Geneva Convention. The high-value foreigners might be spared, if they can be traded for something of value (Russian prisoners, or ending sanctions, etc.).
