WGN Reporter's Taxes In Hinsdale Unusually Low
Patch ^ | 1 July 2022 | David Giuliani

Posted on 07/02/2022 9:38:45 AM PDT by DUMBGRUNT

The old house was torn down and replaced by a much bigger home. County records don't reflect the change.

WGN investigative reporter Ben Bradley is selling his Hinsdale house for $1.9 million.

The tax bill for the property is unusually low – $5,000 in 2020.

In 2010, records show that the land trust bought the three-story house from a builder for $1.4 million. The Cook County assessor now values the property at $231,000. If the house is actually worth $1.9 million, the property taxes would amount to $40,000 a year. At $1.5 million, the taxes would be about $32,000.

"The taxpayer did not file an appeal because he's no dummy," Hynes said.

The county assessor's website appears to rely on information about the old house. It says the house is 880 square feet, far less than the 6,113 square feet listed in the advertisement. The assessor also says the house lacks central air conditioning, which the ad says it has.

The assessor indicates the house has one bathroom; the ad says it has 5½. The old house had no fireplaces; the new one has two.

The real story is that it is in the "news".

This is S.O.P. for Cook county politicians, first I can recall for a news reader?

Apparently, he pissed off one of his neighbors and they started making calls.

My house is valued at less than 25% of his and still, I pay way more real estate tax.

Yep, and he keeps it obfuscated from his name by having it owned by a “land trust”. That investigative reporter must have thought that he would never be investigated.

“Hynes, who was elected assessor last year, said it was not unusual for the county assessor to miss a major change to a property. “

How did the $1.4 million sale go “under the radar”?

The old house was torn down and a new, more expensive house was built. I’m my county, that requires permitting...up to and including “final approval”. The LAST step in the process, after final approval...the property info is turned over to the county accessor’s office to set the value...and start taxation.

I lied in Dallas, TX for most of my life...I remember a news story detailing how most of the ‘elites’ or connected in Dallas gov drove Mercedes Benz cars, yet none of them could show who owned the cars. Tags had either never been applied for or was never renewed. One city council member left a new MB in the parking garage at Love Field until it rotted...

This is there *real* story. When yearly. R/E taxes are more money than what would have been the full price for a home 40 years ago; do you really ever own your home? Inflation has jacked up the price on homes to unaffordable levels, benefiting only the speculators and the city governments.

"Government media" isn't just an epithet. This is typical of how the corrupt Dem machine has its tentacles in all kinds of unexpected places to ensure an unending one-party state.

A few years ago Rahm had a rent-a-mob show up to protest the teacher's union. Turned out that a black pastor who was receiving large government grants for "unemployment training" offered a bunch of people $50 to go protest. The pastors "administer" these programs, usually with a spouse, child or son-in-law on a nice salary supposedly "working," when these are usually reserved for GOTV efforts (i.e., vote buying).

Meanwhile, if you are Perillo and complain about the lack of safety in the city after your car dealership is robbed, then you get a visit from inspectors to harass and fine you for criticizing the local government.

Chicago and Cook County represent the corrupt, one-party state that the Dems are trying to establish across the whole country, having already succeeded in IL, CA, NJ, etc., and are trying even in Texas in Harris County, Austin and Dallas.

And property taxes based on a “homes value” is nothing but a scam anyway.

The people should only pay for what is needed. Not a penny more.

The entire budget public for everyone to see. Know exactly what each department needs. Divide that number by the amount of square footage of all properties. You have your tax bill.

NEXT SCHEDULED REASSESSMENT 2023

I’d be checking with tax and real estate attorneys.

And maybe make a move before the hammer drops.

Like “walking around money”, but taxpayers pay for it.

“”The loser in this situation is the neighbor,” Patrick Hynes, Lyons Township’s assessor, said in an interview.”

Years back a friend lived in a Mies van der Rohe building on the north side. Thomas Hynes the Crook County assessor owned the TOP TWO FLOORS!!!!
This guy’s father?

Sounds like the new house was built without a building permit.
