The story of Led Zeppelin’s 70s rock masterpiece Immigrant Song Although Immigrant Song was written to be entirely tongue in cheek... its humor was almost completely lost on listeners. In fact, this fist in the air rocker was so power-packed that legions lined up to crown its Zeppelin the lords of Rock and Roll. And by then... it was too late to convince anyone that they were more or less joking. Is this smash hit rock’s greatest battle cry anthem? Written by rock’s ultimate guitar hero Jimmy Page and masterfully sung by Robert Plant with John Paul Jones and John Bonham taking it to the highest levels of music
I’ll watch the video later. Thanks for the Zep post!
In before the Zot? j/k
NO!
I reject this heresy!
Onward, to Valhalla!
Good Lord, with this talking head shut up? Play the damn song.
Here are the Viking Kitties.

Zot it!
It’s blasphemy!
No one can stand to be in the car when this comes up on my playlist.

🎼On we sweep,
With threshing oars,
Our only goal will be the grocery store....
“In before the Zot? j/k”
Wow! Back in the day any “Viking Kitty” post would generate DOZENS of responses! MANY posts with images of lightning bolt throwing kittens!!!
We’re NOT slowing down, we’re just taking a break to write new music! LOL I was just playing, “Stairway to Heaven” on my drum set yesterday
“To be a Rock and not to Roll”!
Lyrics
A-ah-ahh-ah, ah-ah-ahh-ah
We come from the land of the ice and snow
From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow
The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands
To fight the horde and sing and cry, Valhalla, I am coming
On we sweep with, with threshing oar
Our only goal will be the western shore
Ah-ah-ahh-ah, ah-ah-ahh-ah
We come from the land of the ice and snow
From the midnight sun where the hot springs FLOW
How soft your fields, so green
Can whisper tales of gore, of how we calmed the tides of war
We are your overlords
On we sweep with, with threshing oar
Our only goal will be the western shore
S-so now you better stop and rebuild all your ruins
For peace and trust can win the day despite of all you’re losin’
Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh
Ahh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh
worth framing in context - many hits are written (or attributed to, since there may be ghost writers) by males in their early 20’s. there are exceptions but in general there are only a few things besides music rattling around in their heads at that age.
apparently metallica’s fade to black was written after their gear was stolen, for example.
paranoid by black sabbath was iirc a joke song.
Don’t think the song was any more of a joke than Good Times Bad Times or Ramble On. Its just the way Plant wrote lyrics.
I gave up on this aging roadie who is more concerned about hearing his own voice and opinions, pimping his YT sponsor and telling us all about ‘rock’ insider-style (with his stupid hat covering bald head) after EIGHT minutes.
I hate this crap......SAY IT IN THE BEGINNING and then let people decide if what you think is so great. It certainly isn’t worth watching 25 minutes of this fool. sheesh.... BTW, never did like LZ, nor do I even recall “Immigrant Song” with anything other than blah............
A Paul Harvey wannabe without the “rest of the story.”
People listen to the lyrics on Immigrant Song?! Why are you not paying attention to the guitar?!
And The Monkees were formed to create a comedy TV series.
(I probably have every one of their songs!)
“On we sweep,
With threshing oars,
Our only goal will be the grocery store..”
Ha ha ha .. . nice.
Uhhh... finding it hard to see how people took the song literally and seriously at the same time... pretty obvious that Led Zeppelin did NOT see themselves as viking warriors conquering new lands... abundance use in cat videos provides scant evidence people took it overly serious.
I’d say the only question is that overly serious, proposterous rock (see: Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath) and revolution-as-pandering rock (see: Def Leppard, AC/DC) became such staples by the late 70s/early 80s that people might not have been sure that Led Zeppelin was in on the joke.
>> People listen to the lyrics on Immigrant Song?! <<
The refrain is just so damned easy to pick up. “Aaa-AAAH-aaaaaaaah-AH!”
