Good ballplayer.
If the GOAT discussion is based on titles....there’s the GOAT.
Good for him, making it to age 88!
The GOAT.
After retiring from playing, Russell served as the head coach of the Seattle Supersonics (1973-77) and the Sacramento Kings (1987-88), reaching the playoffs twice with the Sonics. He never had the same success as a coach that he enjoyed in his playing career, however.

...
I remember when he hosted SNL, he was in a skit called “The Black Shadow”, which was a parody of “The White Shadow”, where he was the coach always getting into trouble, and his white players had to bail him out.
RIP! I know this man, and he wasn’t a Knick! Always seemed like a nice, smart person.
The center of the iconic Celtic teams of the sixties. Legendary player.
Loved watching Bill at 6foot9 battle Chamberlain at 7 feet on the old ABC Sunday afternoon game from 1 to 3 central time. Lakers with Jerry West and Elgin Baylor were great. Old Bill used to control Chamberlain for the most part. Bill was not a big scorer, but a great Def player and rebounder.
Now only Bob Cousy, age 93, is left from the great Boston Celtic basketball dynasty of the 1950-60s.
In 1992 Red Auerbach named his all-time dream team, and of course Bill Russell topped the list https://celticswire.usatoday.com/lists/nba-boston-celtics-red-auerbach-playoff-dirty-dozen/
Bill Russell led the University of San Francisco to national titles in 1955 and 1956, including a 55-game winning streak.
Strangely, after he left USF (he didn’t graduate) he virtually severed all ties with the college that was the only school to offer him a scholarship. Didn’t even answer calls from USF athletic directors over the years. He never offered an explanation.
One of my basketball idols. RIP Bill Russell, you were a champion.
Frank Robinson was his team mate in high school.
RIP Bill Russell.
RIP.
RIP.

Poor Bill and Nichelle, they will not get to throw Sniffer out of office, unless, they were Bolshekrats, then they will never have voted as much when they were alive.
