I am always amazed that in lands that have been populated for thousands of years, people cannot remember where they left landmarks and towns.
Seems such lore would be part of directions for travels…

.......people cannot remember where they left landmarks and towns. My BIL has lived where I do now since 1986. We'll be driving someplace, through open farmland or hills, and he'll say something like, George used to live on the corner there, till his house burned down.....must have been 30 years ago.
