My apology, I was set off by others taking offense to me, and so my defense was up. I should not have had an attitude towards you. I apologize,

I wouldn't call her a welfare queen. Her job, which she lucked into, was a job. A cushy job. But still, a job. Her family calls the monarchy "the firm.

The monarchy might even be a profit-making enterprise for the British public. I've heard the monarchy referred to as "Britain's answer to Disneyland."

The changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace draws countess tourists every year. Royal guards and castles plaster British travel brochures.

In some ways, the Royals are like those people in Mickey Mouse and Cinderella costumes at Disneyland. They get paid more, but that's part of the attraction. Unlike Cinderella they're "real" royals, and the high pay is necessary to keep up that illusion.

They also serve other purposes for the British government. PR and diplomatic stuff. If Britain fired its Royals, they'd have to hire more diplomats and PR flaks. They cost money too, and might not be as effective.

It's a cushy job, but it has its drawbacks. You can't tell the world what you believe. We're free to spout our own political opinions, write books, make YouTube videos and films, saying whatever we please.

They're even more deplatformed than us. Everything they say in public must first be vetted and approved by their woke Parliament. Step too far out of line, and you'll be fired or forced to resign.

I agree about that. When I was stationed in Germany back in the early 70’s I spent a lot of off days visiting castles and things totally cool.

What a waste of a vanity. Perhaps your next one should be your opus.

You’re talking like a leftist. Read Daniel 2:21 for starters.

We fought a war for independence; the notion of setting up a republic was not unanimous by any stretch. A great swath of Americans would have been happy to see George Washington crowned as our own King George, remember; and George III was quite stunned that Washington refused a crown, which led to his admiration of Washington’s character for whatever that was worth. Not to mention the sentiment as rendered by pastor Jonas Clarke, “We recognize no Sovereign but God and no King but Jesus”, so in a spiritual sense we have to be a monarchy, which the First Amendment recognizes we have the right to do.

People who think like you do - who don’t recognize the importance of ideals and values and their enshrinement in traditions - are one of the reasons our own country is going to hell.

Oh I know that after Obama, the Queen was probably happy to meet a respectful man like Trump, and I know he and her got along well.

I have nothing against her, my whole talk is set off by the idea a King or Queen should be treated like a god or goddess by Americans. Thus my Welfare Queen take. Freepers hate Welfare Queens in America, well she and the whole royal line are a bunch of welfare brats living off the money they stole from the citizens of the country.

I think the same about the Clintons, while I do bel;iebve the Queen was a better person, aside form her pro-abortion stance.

How much of that is in the sovereign’s hands these days?

To hear some on FR talk, if she had used the reserve power of refusal of royal assent, the government would have risen up against her. Don’t know exactly how true that is, but that’s a dangerous situation; I doubt that Thatcher would have ever even threatened such a thing.
