The HEMTT (Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck made the list. I’m happy. I drove it all over IRAQ in 1991. It was a great ride.

“Unimog was designed in 1946”

Snickering. Maybe the plans were dug out of the rubble in 1946. According to Wikipedia, the prototype was developed in 1945. A significant year in German history. And resistance to the occupation continued until at least 1947.

"I can say one thing, they always haul the new trucks to the dump in deuce and a halves."

I agree. I entered the military in 1975 and the deuce and a half was king. Nothing was power or automated (no power brakes no power steering, etc... ), but it just did it's job.

In the old engines, there was a switch for different fuels. I met an old motor maintenance chief that said in Viet Nam, they sometimes had to run the deuce and half on contaminated heating oil and it still started up and got the job done.

We still used the deuce and half in Iraq as late as 2005.

While in Iraq in 2005, we had a deuce and a half get in the middle of an ambush. It was completely shot up to include RPG damage. It made it back to base on its own power. It was leaking every fluid (gear oil, battery acid, lube oil, diesel, etc...) and half the tires were flat. While it was sad to see it die, the maintenance section stripped it of every useable part before sending it to the scrap heap.
