Intravenous treatment with omega-3 fatty acids in elderly hospitalized patients in intensive care due to COVID-19 seems to have positive effects on the ability of the immune system to cope with the virus, according to a study.
In patients with COVID-19, a result of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the immune system and the body's activation of white blood cells are over-activated. It can lead to a so-called systemic inflammatory storm, which worsens the disease state and can cause complications such as sepsis and heart failure.
Researchers have now shown that omega-3 fatty acids can stimulate active healing of inflammation, without inhibiting the immune response. By accelerating the healing of the inflammation without compromising the body's immune system, it could be possible to counteract the most serious complications of COVID-19, researchers believe.
The study was conducted in 2020, at an early stage of the pandemic when there were no vaccines available. The study looked at 22 elderly hospitalized COVID-19 patients, one-half of whom were randomly assigned to intravenous treatment with omega-3 fatty acids for five days and the other half to intravenous administration of corresponding volumes of saline.
The treatment effect was found by mapping inflammatory biomarkers and immunological reactions.
"First, we showed that fatty acid metabolism to inflammation-healing molecules was stimulated in those patients treated with omega-3 fatty acids. By isolating immune cells before, during, and after treatment, we were able to show that immune function improved," says Magnus Bäck.
Stimulating the healing of inflammation with omega-3 fatty acids has the potential to lead to a new, cost-effective low-risk treatment for COVID-19, as a complement to existing treatment," says Magnus Bäck.

I believe that. I take 1000mg of Krill oil daily, seems to help with inflammation and has a side benefit of lower Cholesterol for me.
"SEEMS TO"?? Didn't HCQ "seem to" help until the RCTs showed positive benefit? Didn't IVM "seem to" help and then was proven to help in many later RCTs?
The double standard drives me nuts. The clear difference is that they cannot cudgel Trump with Omega-3 Fatty Acids. If Trump should perchance mention Omega-3 Fatty Acids, we all know what we would hear.
The new California law says doctor's medical licenses can be revoked if they give patients "misinformation" about COVID, treatments, and vaccines. If giving patients info about HCQ and IVM is "misinformation," then shouldn't the same type of information about Omega-3 Fatty Acids be deemed "misinformation," too? Will CA doctors be subject to censure for telling patients about this study?
Sorry for the off-topic rant, but this is a pet peeve of mine.
Thanks.

The fact I took statins like a moron is my pet peeve, lol. My right hip joint acts up sometimes, pharmaceuticals, spit.
Which fish besides salmon is good source of omega-3?

I’ve tried several different statins, and with every one I had leg muscle cramps and quit taking them.
I take supplements and eat pretty well, but my high cholesterol is hereditary. I know people lived with it before the miracles of modern medicine so I don’t worry about it much.
"...now shown..."???? Oh, please.
Top 10 and no farm salmon.

Thanks for that info. I guess my grocery list will include Sardines and salmon more often. But I have not see some of the other fish at my grocery store. Mostly it is Tilapia & Salmon at Aldi. They do have canned sardines.
You could pick up a couple of their pickled herring cans, too. They taste pretty good. Three flavors.
Yes, my Swedish in-laws were big fans of pickled Herrings and pig’s feet during Christmas holidays. I will certainly pick up Herrings next time.
A comparison of the two. https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/krill-oil-vs-fish-oil?utm_source=ReadNext

Both almonds and walnuts are nutritious additions to your diet, but only walnuts contain omega-3 fatty acids.
