Julia Roberts revealed that the late Martin Luther King Jr. and his wife, Coretta Scott King, paid the hospital bill for her birth when her parents couldn’t afford it.

“One day Coretta called my mother and asked if her kids could be part of the school because they were having a hard time finding a place that would accept her kids,” Roberts said, referring to segregation in the 1960s.

It previously has been reported that a Ku Klux Klan member blew up a car outside one of Betty and Walter Roberts’ plays in response to King Jr’s daughter Yolanda being cast in a role where she had to kiss a white actor.

I think she wanted a refund
:) You’re a good sport.
My mother deserved a lot more than a refund.
Probably. I don’t see anything wrong with the story, although now MLK is regarded as lower than dirt (because he wasn’t a separatist) so she’s taking the chance of being canceled.
Her mouth is too big.
Hogwash Alert!
Michael King — who changed his name to Martin Luther to try to co-opt come religious gravitas — was a socialist and a serial adulterer.
Deal with it.
Your point is excellent, my good FRiend.
My mother waa born in the late 30’s. Bill was $35 in an tiny hospital in a rural area with no insurance. Mr child was born in the early 80s by csection with no insurance and cost $4500.
Julia Roberts is from Smyrna, GA. A suburb of Atlanta. She did not grow up rich. Her brother Eric Roberts made it in show business and he helped Julia get into acting.
Like that a nice way to say piss off
Last time I saw a mouth like hers it had a hook in it.
First they had to dump and humiliate his first wife. I'll never forget seeing pix of Julia wearing a t-shirt with a message shaming the first wife for not signing off on the divorce promptly enough to suit them. Hollywood privilege.
I'm glad they have stayed married for a long while; but if she had an ounce of common courtesy, she would zip it rather than boast about their wonderful marriage and kids.
I call BS. Maybe the King’s tuition money for their kids ENABLED the Roberts parents to pay their hospital bill, but I doubt that the bill was even discussed except in those terms — “I’m so grateful y’all enrolled your kids when you did — we didn’t know how we woulda paid the hospital without it.”
