"Sunset" must be my favorite cowboy movie, with two of my favorite actors - James Garner and Bruce Willis - playing two of my favorite historical figures - Wyatt Earp and Tom Mix - friends in real life. Tom Mix was one of the pallbearers at Earp's funeral.
I also deal with my emotions with music videos. Last night cried out for this movie.
This is a somewhat unusual style for my videos as it does not ALWAYS match video to lyrics. But what I'm always trying to do is give an accurate understanding of a movie and, for this one, it's the comparison of Earp's memories of the real Gunfight at the OK Corral with the "real life" story being told in the movie of a parallel gunfight when Earp partners with Mix to take on the thugs of the murderer of a woman he once loved.
R.I.P. Wyatt Earp.
“There have been conversations recently about how American movies are currently not as good as Asian ones, but there was a time when that wasn’t true”. Wokism has ruined Tinseltown.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Horrible Movie!
Tell me what movies you like.
I lived 62 yrs within 18 miles of Wyatt’s birthplace, Monmouth, IL. They have ok corral re-inactments in a vacant lot next to the old house. There are Earps that still live around that area. One flew a P-38 during WW2 (though he has likely passed on).
Wyatt died in 1929. The Stearman biplane (an example used in that movie clip) didn’t come off the drawing board until 1934.
i hear willis has some form of dementia and wont be doing movies anymore?
Yes. A terrible shame. Hard both on him and on his family.
I never knew that. I was raised in Kankakee and Chicago.
Good information about the biplane. Grandfather was fascinated by them and made friends with the early carriers of the Air Mail. When he wasn’t mining, he was a journalist. Some lovely air mail news stories, all from the 1920’s.
Interesting. This page says his common law wife was Jewish, though it was not confirmed that he adopted that religion.
As for reusing the name, we did that some in the midwest, but it wasn’t as common as it was in the east. I remember teaching genealogy to a Newport RI cousin, who explained that her grandchildren were at marriage ages and she needed to give them the family names to name their children.
When I’m searching back for groups that descend, it’s made easier by there usually being a cluster of names that will descend every single line. Find a different cluster of names, and it’s a different descent from a different individual of similar name.
I was named for my great grandmother on one side and my great-great grandmother on the other. They added the name of a character from a poem father had published in his poetry column when they were courting, so I got midwestern AND eastern names.
I recall reading somewhere that Wyatt Earp was more likely to pistol whip a wannabe hard ass than shoot him.
!!!I LOVE THIS!!!
Do you know, I have never heard of this movie Sunset, and I think I’ve missed something wonderful. Two of my absolute favorite actors, and you’ve added Toby - God bless him I hope he’s doing well.
I like all of your mash ups but I think I might like this the best, so far.
So VERY pleased! I’ve asked husband to digitize Red and Red 2 next. Now just have to find a song. Tending toward Hit Me with your Best Shot. Bruce Willis again. I was looking at Miracle of the Bells to Carillon music, but it was getting a little far out.
